Advantages: Classic war movie in directors cut Disadvantages: Confusing conclusion
...obvious to those who saw Apocalypse Now, its hard to see any significant change to the pre-existing material
Apocalypse Now Redux is a journey movie. US army Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen) is taken in a small patrol boat up river an a secret mission through Vietnam into Cambodia to meet Col Kurtz (Marlon Brando), a renegade US Colonel, and "terminate him with extreme prejudice." It's the height of what we call the Vietnam War and the victors call ...

Advantages: Better flow than the original cut Disadvantages: A bit too long
...television, there was this film, Apocalypse Now. The history of the film is as fascinating as the characters who comprise the film (both on and off screen), as is also true of the subject matter -- the controversial and star-crossed venture of America into the dense jungles of southeast Asia.
While the director, Francis Ford Coppola, will be remembered for his involvement in many major films (such as American Grafitti, the Godfather series), this ...

Advantages: Restores legendary "lost" materials, more complete storyline Disadvantages: Tampering with classic film, length
...minutes) and resequenced version of Apocalypse Now. The “Redux” version ("Redux" means "returned," as from battle or exile) restores scenes, which have been debated, by film historians and experts to such an extent over the years that they have retained a near legendary status. The scenes, which have been restored, are the colonial French plantation scene, extended footage of the surf crazy Colonel Kilgore (brilliantly played by Robert Duvall), additional ...

Advantages: A great film made even better Disadvantages: It drags on a bit
The world's greatest war movie has been extended....and it's better than ever before. 50 minutes of extra footage have been added to Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece in this director's cut, every single minute worth it.
The story is not really like other Vietnam war films in that a lot of them 'glorify' the US army. Well, fortunately, this one doesn't. Martin Sheen stars as Captain Willard, a Green Beret who is given a mission to go up the Nung ...

Advantages: Outstanding War Film Disadvantages: None
'Apocalypse Now' was released in 1979, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and stared Martin Sheen as lead character, Captain Willard. The extract of this film I shall be analysing is the opening scene in which the central characters, including Captain Willard, are introduced. This film attempts to reflect the brutal events of the Vietnam conflict as well as the trauma and anguish suffered by those involved. It was produced not just for profit or entertainment, ...

Apocalypse Now is Probably the best film ever made.
It is based in Vietnam, although not a straight war film like Platoon. It is a film based on the mental strain of American soldiers fighting untrained, a losing battle against the Viennese communists and themselves.
The basic plot is that the captain(Martin Sheen) is sent on a mission far up a river into the middle of Vietcong controlled trattorie to assassinate an ex US general who has gone ...

Redux is too long Review ofApocalypse Now Redux (Wide Screen)by
prince_naz
Advantages: Cult classic. If you are a fan you might even like the extra bits Disadvantages: You may fall asleep half way through
...by the enthusiast or the Apocalypse Now fan. if you are viewing for the first time, I would say it is a no no simply because it takes so long for the story to unfold. Scenes seem to drag and if its late at night you might even fall asleep before the brilliant end! the film was not meant to be so long, so lets stick to the original. ...

Advantages: Lots of extra material Disadvantages: Lots of extra material!
What can you do to improve one of the greatest movies ever made? Nothing, that's what. OK, the extra material explains a lot of things that seemed a bit inexplicable in the original but that's only an opinion that has occurred since seeing the redux version.
Having read the Mrs Coppela's diary of the shoot, it's interesting to see scenes like the French plantation and the Playboy bunnies that she speaks about at length but all the actual scenes ...
