Annie – Fit for Viewing by Persons Generally Excruciating, is one word which comes to mind, when thinking of how to sum up Annie the Musical. Raucous, grating and harsh, could describe the songs. Contrived, implausible and sudsy, the plot. However, I’ve watched this DVD probably getting on for 100 times as it is a firm favourite with my daughter, who is 3, which just goes to prove that genetics don’t always work. My instinct is to inwardly groan – although I can’t really remember the story at all, there is something about small red-haired American brats that does not call out to me “quality movie”. I remove the cellophane packaging with a heavy heart. There are two possible outcomes – either my daughter will love it, and we will watch it endlessly ...

An action-packed song and dance spectacular!

Advantages: Family viewing
Disadvantages: None - unless you hate cute singing kids

One day, a short-tempered millionaire called Oliver Warbucks decides he wants an orphan to stay with him for a week, as a P.R. stunt. Annie is chosen. Her cheeky character causes him to become fond ...
...insists that she will find her real parents one day. Warbucks tries to help, but succeeds only in attracting crooks who want the reward money. Of course, it all ends with a happy-ever-after! The sheer energy put in by the actors - especially the children - makes this film fun to watch, although it is very old-fashioned and quite obviously derived from a stage musical. The songs come thick and fast, with just enough dialogue and action to link them ...
