Anaconda is a formulaic monster movie with decent but hardly state of the art special effects. As such, it is ripe for criticisms such as "Snakes don't move that fast!", "Snakes don't have vocal cords!", and "I can predict exactly who is going to die and who isn't!" A simply way to sum up this film would be to say Jaws with snakes. Sadly that does the shark film a major injustice and vastly over credits this...thing. We're on safe ground storywise with a bunch of documentary makers sailing up the amazon in search of something or other (go on, have a guess what it is). I see that most of users they share my opinion on the film, that is to say, that is mediocre throwing to bad. I went to see this in the cinema and it was one of those movies where you come out and say "At least the sound was good". It really was not good at all. The acting was terrible and I'm not too sure about the effects either. Some of them were very good. The others however were pretty abismal. ...he wants to catch the anaconda and stick it in a zoo! this could be very bad for all his crewmates, as they all get picked off by the anaconda 1 by 1, and some others get used as bait! only 2 people come out alive, and they are pretty happy about it. this is a cheesy but good film, go and rent it if you wanna watch it, dont buy it! ... Well Anaconda is simply rubbish. The thought of a big snake and a nutter trying to catch it may sound watchable but it was always very unlikely to be a massive hit. The finished result is awful. The plot, of which there is very little, moves painfully slow and so when the snake arrives you are at least entertained for a slit second. Advantages: good thriller for the chicken hearted
Disadvantages: disgusting for the people who abhor reptiles

I absolutely hate snakes so this was one big thriller for me. I hated it. It was predictable in that scary-movie sense although it did manage to scare me at some points. It is your typical thriller plot. With music that makes people tense at all the moments they want to throw a bluff... These reptiles are huge. This movie is absolutely terrible! There is a plastic snake with a pair of eyes that light up in a red colour that goes around "attacking" people (when actually the actors are merely holding the snakes to themselves). Some unimpressive splashing in the water when the boat goes by. Practically every actor in the film dies an unnecessary death as each one could be avoided if it was real life. ...it tells us that the anaconda "will regurgitate its prey in order to kill and eat again". If you're anything like me, that had you bouncing up and down in your seat with glee, thinking "Oh boy!!! We're gonna see Ice Cube get vomited up by a big snake!" This movie is firmly in the Tremors/Deep Rising vein of monster movies. ...a man-eating 40 foot long anaconda which has been rumoured to swim around in the areas he is leading the helpless crew too. What follows is the crew slowly figuring out that Voight isn’t what he seems, and each member screaming bloody murder as the man eating snake swivels they're way. Anaconda is Jaws meets the Mosquito Coast. The similarities being jaws is centred around water and the Mosquito Coast centred around the amazon. This is where the likeness ends. The all star cast struggle to do anything with the storyline which is as straightforward as they come. John Voight plays a snake catcher who is taken aboard a ship in search of a secret tribe. ...the fact that the "scary" anaconda looked like a leg of a pair of tights stuffed with jelly cubes. At one point in the film when it swallowed one of the boat crew I laughed for literally about 10 minutes when we saw an up close and personal view of the tight leg swimming past with what looked like a plaster of paris shape of a man in its stomach. It's worth watching simply for that bit actually, but definitely not if you're after an evening in with ... Read review
