Well I have been eyeing this DVD up for some time but never bought it as hubby tells me I have seen it as I watched it with him but for the life I me I cannot remember ever seeing it. An officer and a gentleman tries to combine two plots: 1) a good-for-nothing tries to make it in the navy and 2) A romance between two people from different social standards. These are two genres that CAN mix, but director Taylor Hackford just didn't succeed. In two hours, he showed 13 weeks of military training, a developing romance and character building. As I said before, this can be done, but Hackford just scratched the surface with every ...

An Officer and a Gentleman is a timeless classic. Probably a Chick Flick with the ladies loving Richard Gere in his white naval officer's uniform. The fact the he ends goes for the factory girl, breaks the social/class barrier, but found the way that the factory girls lusting after the naval training offers, and pining all their hopes for success on bagging themselves a rich husband a little behind the times and reminiscent of 'Pride and Predjudice'. ...
