My mates had been nagging me to watch this film. They said it was the best they had seen and boy were they right. After a few weeks of nagging I decided to push the boat out and buy it on DVD and I am glad I did. Within the first ten minutes I found my eyes glued to the screen. The movie is simply fantastic. ...years. Picture = 8.5 I have the American verion, but have seen the UK version. Both of them look fantastic with the UK version just winning because of the extra resolution offered by the PAL system. Sound = 9 A really involving Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is presented on the disc. It really sounds great. Dialogue is clearly separated and the score is presented very nicely. Extras = 4.5 The only extras are 3 deleted scenes, the trailer and some cast ... Read review

American History X is a brilliant film, one of my favourites. It studies racism in America, and unlike most films, it looks at both sides of the story instead of just saying "racism is wrong" without justifying the statement or looking at why the problem arises. The film is sort of split into two halves, the first half are the arguments for racism, and the second half the arguments against it after Norton comes out of jail and realises he no longer ... Advantages: Gripping and emotional story
Disadvantages: Gruesome beyond what is necessary

This is the story of a man fuelled by racial hatred, after his father is killed by black criminals. The story follows is told from the view of his brother - played by Edward Furlong (Terminator 2) and follows his brother's joining of the racist cult and subsequent imprisonment for a very brutal and shocking murder (believe me you'll be shocked). I have just watched this film on Sky after much scouting around for a film. Wow! It really was excellent. It managed to keep my attention throughout the film which is quite rare on a Sunday Evening. American History x sounded quite a boring title at first. I read the info about it on the sky channel and thought I would give it a try. I sure am glad I did. This is a powerful film about racism, and when you watch it, it makes you think what life would really be like, if everything were like that. The beginning of the film has parallels, with the end especially the deaths of the two people. When I first heard of this film it was from people who I knew to have racial prejudices. The main ways that it was described was "great", "bloody" and "wicked". The reason for this description, I feel, is that it tells the tale of Derek (Edward Norton) who is a member of a Klu Klux Klan type group. To begin with you find his character totally repulsive.
