American Ugly Review ofAmerican Beauty (DVD)by

Advantages: Mena Suvari Disadvantages:
I rented out this film tonight and as I watched I wondered how it won so many awards.wait I can understand why, it is because Mena Suvari and Thora Birch got their tops of for a minute. I think Kevin Spacey deserved his ocsar but the rest of the film wasn't really that inpressive. Purhapse it is just not my type of film or genre but I didn't find it that good. I hope that Sam Mendes was lucky that this film became a big hit maybe it did because woman ...

Help me to find more expressions to say who I enjoyed this film. There is no better film out there.
The movie's topic is the always the same and repeating life of two families in a suburban area. On one side there are the Burnhams: Lester, a looser, his wife Carolyne, a hyperorganized woman, and their daughter, who Lester describes as every teenager "angry, uncertain, introverted..". They get new neighbours, the Phitts, Colonel Phitts, his somehow ...

Advantages: Visually beautiful Disadvantages: Art shots become tedious
American Beauty is a haunting, beautiful film, and a wonderful directorial debut from Sam Mendes. The study o fone middle-aged man's descent into breakdown and point of self-discovery is understated and sensitive. By way of contrast, the portrayal of his wife as a social-climbing, shrieking monster is unconvincing and, frnakly, two-dimensional. However, in the middle of it all, Mena Suvari looks fragile and beautiful, and the other central characters ...

Advantages: Makes you think! Disadvantages: Not for the young!
Watching this movie is a little like seeing life at its worse, but most honest. It is a movie that tells how one can be perceived, but not really be. Sort of like your next door neighbors, we see them one way, how they present themselves to us, but do we REALLY know them! Upon seeing this movie, you can truly understand why it won so many awards!
I would recommend this movie for all adult viewers. It is definitely not a movie to be watched by anyone ...

Advantages: Great entertainment Disadvantages: None
This has to be one of the best films this year! Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening portray a couple in a midlife crisis - a story that ends in disaster. Alan Ball wrote a fabulous script and literally tailored the character of Lester Burnham for Spacey. Hilarious moments are guaranteed when Lester takes a liking to Mena Suvari, the best friend of his daughter. The whole film is a masterpiece, juggling between a laughing and a crying eye throughout and ...

Advantages: Classic film with tons of extras Disadvantages: The cut scenes mentioned aren't included!
The Film:
A modern classic, you chould already have seen this on the big screen. If you haven't the DVD is a complete package that provides the full widescreen release and plenty of background and making of information.
The journey of Kevin Spacey's character to self knowledge, respect and - as we're told in the first seconds of the film - death. Funny, dark and worthy of repeat viewings.
The DVD:
Not only the film, but also a complete directors ...
