...gun action and ugly looking aliens who go around killing everyone. The director Jim Cameron has done a great job with all the special effects in the film, you only have to see one of the aliens to know how good these effects really are. Jim Cameron also directed the ever popular "The Terminator" and "Terminator 2".

...battling against a single monster. Aliens has a slightly larger central cast, but this time they're up against literally thousands of the beasties. Also, whereas in the first one the creature was seemingly near indestructible, here we see that in a fight with a high-calibre bullet, the alien breed loses out like anyone else. This doesn't stop them wiping out half the marine corps of course, and the tactical nature of the beasts' attack makes them ... ...suggestion that the aliens will win because they aren't fighting amongst one another.

Advantages: Stunning in every way Disadvantages: None whatsoever
An absolute masterpiece, perfect in every way. The film is based around Lieutenant Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) who, 57 years after escaping in a cryo-stasis pod from the original Alien, has to face up to her nightmares and accompany a team of battle hardened space marines with orders to cleanse by fire a deep space colony which has been consumed by a host of Xenomorph. The tension is literally bursting at the seams throughout the film and, once underway, ... ...The Abyss), already regarded as the finest action/thriller director alive today, has out-done himself with a superb script and screenplay, as well as some exquisite cinematography. The Aliens saga takes a simple premise - the future, space, hostile beings, and throws this at four directors to create arguably the greatest sci-fi story ever presented ot the screen.
This, the second offering, directed by James Cameron of blockbusting movies such as the Terminator series, Titanic, and The Abyss, is a little predictable. In the first movie, Weaver was not a headline cast member, and killing off the two main actors left the audience ... ...more off everything. More Aliens (even the title is plural), more weapons, more deaths, more special effects. And in fairness, it works.
Rather than introduce any plot spoilers - suffice it to say that Weaver puts in a great performance, along with Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, and not least Lance Henrikson as a robot, I will continue by a look at the dvd itself.
The transfer is of reasonable quality, although Cameron's filimg techniques leave a ...

Aliens is one of the few sequels to an original that can stand alongside it, if slightly behind.

I have seen the original ALIENS movie about 300 times - And I must say that I have never been so captivated by a film since Jaws and ET. ALIENS starts off with Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in hypersleep, following the events of the first movie (By 57 years). Weaver's portrayal of Ripley is probably one of the defining performances of female action cinema and as such she was nominated for an oscar for her portrayal. The story depicts events which lead ... ...alegory of Vietnam - The aliens aren't really the bad guys they're just trying to survive. If you think nothing can live upto the shock of the first movie where the creature was revealed fully at the climax for the first time then look out for the huge queen mother in this one - This is the biggest mechanical monster ever constructed for a movie - And she is very impressive. I rate Aliens a perfect 10. This second installment in the Alien series evolves the original movie's horror/sci-fi genre into action-adventure/sci-fi, setting a standard which has not yet been matched. Aliens is what was the hotly awaited sequel to the 1979 horror masterpiece Alien. However, whereas the plot of that movie was based around one alien against the poorly equipped crew of the Nostromo, this film is literally crawling with the ugly critters.

I think that Aliens actually betters the original because it's characters are more drawn out and likeable, Hudsen is one of my favbourite characters in any film, Michael Biehn is great as usual and the script takes the unlikely option of having not one but two tough female characters. The special effects are good and sensible enough to keep the Aliens hidden for most of the time, only allowing us flashes and leaving the rest to our imagination (there were only ever 6 alien models, however clever camera angles makes it look like there's 10x that number).
