...film by Disney and Pixar. A Bugs Life is just full of fun and adventure from the word go.
The film is about Flik (voice of Dave Foley) who is an inventive ant tries to make an ants life easier, but unfortunately for him his ideas never seem to go to plan.
It is the day when a horde of very greedy grasshoppers are due to come to Ant Island and collect their share of the ants' annual harvest. Unfortunately Flik is trying out one of his inventions ... ...the whole lot of into a puddle never to be seen again. Flik then decides to run into the ant hill to tell Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) but before he is able to say anything the grasshoppers arrive. Their leader Hopper (Kevin Spacey) is not very happy and tells the ants that they have a second chance and have until the end of the summer to get the offering back together again.
After a meeting with those in command Flik comes up with amazing ...

There's just something about a Pixar animated film that says quality. You just know it's going to be good without reading anything about it. This is because the makers concentrate on the story and characters as well as the visuals. A Bugs Life is no different. First you've got the outstanding CGI animation that is truly wonderful to look at. It bursts with colour and imagination. Then there are the characters such as a luvvie type circus magician ... ...with a bumbling brother and an ant with a clumsy knack for inventions. In this story the ants gather food for the grasshoppers until one ant messes the whole thing up leaving the grasshoppers very angry. Not able to gether up enough food in time the ants enlist the help of some circus bugs to fight off the grasshoppers only these bugs think they're just there to out on a show. There's a lot of humour which all ages can enjoy. Recently Disney have ...

Advantages: Funny, suitable for everyone, great graphics Disadvantages: Very similar to Antz
...Christmas (it seems like such a long time....!) threw up a few good movies worth watching on the TV. It was Christmas 2001 when I saw Antz on TV, last Christmas, whilst flicking through the TV guide I noticed A Bugs Life advertised. I couldn’t remember whether this was what I’d seen the year earlier or not. I read the description, it sounded familiar. So much so I wasn’t going to bother watching it as I assumed it was what I’d ... ...It turned out it was a completely different movie altogether! Anyway, shall I stop rambling now?
So, as you may have gathered, this movie IS similar to Antz. However, even if you’ve seen Antz, its still worth watching (well, if you liked Antz, Toy Story and other animated movies that is). You see there are subtle differences between Antz and A Bugs Life. Yes, they are both centred around invertebrates but the story line differs somewhat.

I like A BUG’S LIFE. It is not TOY STORY. Of course it should probably never ever even be thought of together. They are different stories. This is a play on THE MAGNIFICIENT SEVEN more so than TOY STORY. I think A BUG’S LIFE is a charming film, a likable film. I just don’t love it. Why? The backgrounds are stunning, some of the best CGI work I’ve ever seen. The colors and textures of the Grasshoppers and the non-ant bugs are all stunning and beautiful. ... ...it. For me, this is a character actor film, where you have all these characters, but no central voice. Flick just doesn’t do it for me. If Flick’s character was fantastic, this movie would go through the roof with me, but it just didn’t do it. Sure, as it stands, I saw a rough cut of the film. The final music wasn’t in place. That could go a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGG way to helping Flick. Just imagine Woody or Buzz with out those song montages. They ...

(It took me a week to get this into perfection! :)
Intro
~~~~~
In 1998, the movie world saw one of the strangest battles in recent memory, with two entirely computer-animated features about bugs duking it out for box office glory. Having the benefit of first release was PDI/DreamWorks' Antz, which boasted a cast including Woody Allen and Sylvester Stallone (how's that for diverse?) and a nicely adult-geared storyline filled with political intrigue ... ...for its seasonal second-runner, Pixar/Disney's A Bug's Life. Despite Pixar's towering success with the first computer-animated feature, 1995's Toy Story, the initial predictions for A Bug's Life were grim. Just how many insect-centric cartoons can moviegoers stand in a two-month period, especially when the second wears a more kiddie-oriented finish?
Well, A Bug's Life proved its critics wrong, smashing Disney's own record (a record broken by Disney/Pixar's ...
...which is set to become a classic. From the Pixar animation studios(of Toy Story fame), this film tells the story of a hapless ant called Flick who tries to save his colony from an oppressive band of grasshoppers led by the evil Hopper(Kevin Spacey). Every year the ants harvest grain in order to give to the grasshoppers or else be crushed. Flick enlists a band of insect 'warriors' to fight for their freedom from serfdom but when they turn out to be ... ...capitalist masters this film is a delight from start to finish. With a cast of star voices and fantastic characterisation, A Bug's Life will appeal to both young and old. The bug jokes come thick and fast and are truly funny. The bar scene has to be my personal favourite, where for example mosquitos order blood-marys, a slug foams at the mouth after mistakenly receiving a dish garnished with salt and a waiter searches for whoever ordered the 'dung ...
...Story was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between the giant and Pixar Animation Studios. The second product of this relationship is A Bug's Life, a cute movie about an over-ambitious ant named Flick who accidentally causes big trouble for his colony. ...may not make you feel a little childish due to the medium.
Disney continues to firmly hold the title of "Greatest Animation in the World", with "A Bug?s Life" standing as one of their greatest achievements. One of the innovative attachments being the delightful "out-takes" added to the end of the film. The DVD has two sets of these out-takes where as I?m told the VHS cassette has one alternating version per tape. The DVD also features "Gerry?s Game" ... ...big name "movie" stars with a few familiar "TV" star voices, where "A Bug?s Life" is just the opposite, loaded with "TV" stars with Kevin Spacey as the only stand out exception. But the difference in quality is distinct and obvious.
Dreamworks can?t be blamed or surprised though, when you go head to head with Disney, you have your work cut out for you. This is the kind of film that almost makes me wish I had children to share it with. Don?t think ...
Advantages: Good graphics and personification Disadvantages: Storyline not as involving as the Toy Storys
A Bugs Life is a movie that, to be honest, I didn't enjoy too much at the cinema. I felt that although the animation was fantastic and the personification was unbelieveable, it didn't appeal to me too much because I thought that the storyline was weaker than Toy Story, and I was expecting it to be better than Toy Story.
When I watched it on DVD however, my opinion changed instantly. The clarity of the picture and the way that you can watch it both ... ...A Bugs Life is one of my favourite DVDs. I also love the mini-film on the disc called Geri's Game as well.
Picture = 10
A great transfer with all of the colours coming up ultra crisp. This was the first disc to be sourced straight from the digital master, and it really shows in this transfer which is without blemishes.
Sound = 9
A marvelous Dolby Digital mix presented on the disc. Because it is an animation, the sound mixing comes from all around the room because it allows the sound engineers a little more freedom with their equipment.
... ...collector's edition contains a tonne of extras, it is a two disc set. The standard release contains some outtakes and Geri's Game short animation from Pixar.
Advantages: Amazing picture Disadvantages: No trailer/cast crew bios
Not only is this a great film but the DVD does real justice to it. The film is about a clumsy ant called flick who in his attempts to save the ant coloney from disaster ends up becoming friends with a circus crew who've just been sacked for incompetance. The results are really funny, and the animation is absolutely superb. Even better is that the disc itself was transferred directly from the digital source, so the picture quality is top notch. The ... ...their skin and clothes modelling, a set of outtakes which appear at the end of the film also, and another new set of outtakes. I was extremely surprised at how funny it was for adults as well. Even my husband joined in the fun for once. The animation was brilliant. Advantages: Outstanding animation Disadvantages: Sat here for 2 minutes trying to think of some but cannot.
I watched A Bug's Life on video yesterday, not my choice, someone put it in the video machine and pressed play. I am not a big fan of all these animated movies that have been coming out recently. Most of them are Disney productions and, well, they are for kids in my opinion so I thought I wouldn't enjoy them. But I was pleasantly surprised by A Bug's Life. I thought it was pretty entertaining and had a decent story to it as well. I won't give you ... ...or real life! I had a few chuckles through the movie as did the others who were watching. I was the only person out of the 4 watching who hadn't seen the vid and they all couldn't believe it for some reason. The last full animated film I saw was The Lion King (back in the old days!) and animation sure has come a long way. A Bug's Life certainly doesn't look "cartoonified" like The Lion King did. I still enjoyed The Lion King though. After watching ...
