Advantages: good message, funny, ridiculous Disadvantages: cheesy, unrealistic, annoying characters
...aspects of '40 Days and 40 Nights' are ridiculous and cheesy, I appreciate the fact that it is a pro-sex movie. Sure, at the beginning, Matt is miserable with his life of one night stands, but the film does not make any moral judgments about his lifestyle choices. He feels unfulfilled emotionally, but the film does not imply that Matt will be going to hell or be suffering any other consequences. The premise is rather weak, to put it mildly. Six months ... ...choice to remain chaste for 40 days. Partly, he seems convinced that his brother will fail, but he also seems unsure of his own decision. A full-fledged priest also puts in his two cents of doubt that Matt will be able to abstain. The film gets in plenty of digs at the Catholic Church including a scene where Matt imagines the Virgin Mary winking at him. Another interesting touch is that Matt's parents disapprove of their older son's choice to become ...

But when his room mate learns of his self enforced abstinence, things take a turn for the worse as he becomes the focus of everyone’s attention as they start to gamble on when he will crumble and give in to temptation. Maybe this was due to the then cinematic trend for juvenile, teen sex comedies such as "American Pie" or maybe it was because I was just very juvenile. But over the subsequent years my enjoyment of "40 Days and 40 Nights" has certainly waned as either I have outgrown these sorts of movies or that "40 Days and 40 Nights" although ...

...pleasures of the skin for 40 days and 40 nights, and can the beautiful girl at the laundrette help him? And so the scene is set for possibly the shallowest movie I have ever seen.
The one plus point was that Josh Hartnett (who honestly has the acting ability of a garden shed) and Shannyn Sossamon did play together quite well, and the romantic interludes did work more or less. Shannyn Sossamon's character, Erica, was the one beacon of light in the ... ...to the end of the 40 days culminated with what was in fact, a rape scene. OK the victim was male and the perpetrator was a gorgeous female, but it still was unconsensual sex and yet this was brushed away as if it didn't matter. Still no doubt in the shallow minds of the Hollywood producers this was perfectly acceptable.
I realise I'm not the film's target audience and perhaps in the eyes of a younger viewer, and at the risk of being sexist, a female ...

...call tonsillitis.
After watching 40 Days and 40 Nights, I thought it would be a good idea to share it with you all!
Josh Harnett (Pearl Harbour, Black Hawk Down) plays Matt Sullivan, the lovable and extremely devoted lover of Nicole (Vinessa Shaw). The film starts with Matt watching scenes of Nicole and himself on his laptop, obviously filmed during some sickeningly happy and tender times together. In the scene that follows we see Matt attempting ... ...foreplay, NO fooling around for 40 days and 40 nights!
John tries to warn him of the difficulties that he would face (well he would know) and actually tries to dissuade Matt. Matt seems determined and gets home, clears out the porn, mags, pics or anything that may have him thinking of sex at all and replaces with things like model making sets, books etc. Ryan returns home to find a very different and more positive Matt. After a few days he discovers ...

His flat mate, Ryan (Paulo Costanzo), can't believe this and tells it everyone he knows. The next day, there is a website looking for people who want to bet on the day Matt breaks his own rules. Advantages: Josh Hartnett! Disadvantages: A bit slow, not funny in parts where it's supposed to be
40 Days & 40 Nights is a comedy starring the gorgeous Josh Hartnett (always a bonus) & he considers himself to be a sex addict. After he splits from his girlfriend Nicole, he begins sleeping with as many people as possible, just sex no strings attached. He then realises that his behaviour isn't healthy & decides to give up sex for lent. That's 40 days & 40 nights with nothing, no touching or anything. Coincidently, a few days after taking his vow ... ...for… no pun intended!
40 Days & 40 Nights is an average run of the mill comedy, there's nothing special or outstanding about it however it is an entertaining film & will keep you watching through to the end even if you are willing it to end! It has some funny moments & there's great chemistry between Josh Hartnett & Sharon Sossamon) but there's nothing really special about this comedy. It's definitely not one of Hartnett's best films & definitely ...

This is most definitely the worst film of 2002, possibly on my top ten worst films of all time.
The basic premise of this film is good, the main character Matt, played by Josh Hartnett, decides to give up sex for lent. Then in true Hollywood style, he meets during this period the woman of his dreams, Erica (Shannyn Sossamon), but deciding that his new-found celibacy is a personal matter he does not tell her. Or so we are told. Unfortunately there are many problems with this film, starting with Mr. Hartnett. He belongs to that breed of Hollywood actors, which are known more for being pretty young things than for their acting ability, and apart from ‘Black Hawk Down’, Hartnett’s acting talents have not really been called upon before. Now if this was just your average rom-com then he would have been fine. However ...

I found this film hilarious! Its about a blokes vow of selebisy to try to get over his ex-girlfriend. I no it sounds poor, but when this bloke thinks he is gods gift you just have to like the pain he goes through especially when all he thinks about is his sexual ego and prowess and materialistic view of women as fodder for sex.
