Disclaimer A film only review of 127 hours, the Region 2 DVD release is scheduled for June 2011 but if you can't wait until then there are imported copies available from amazon and other on-line retailers. Please be aware that this review reveals the ending of the film and whilst this could be considered a spoiler to some people the film is based on the real life experience Aron Ralston went through back in 2003 when this incident occurred and has been reported in the press and in interviews with the man himself. 127 Hours 2010 DVD Release Date: 6th June 2011 Certificate 15 Running Time 90 ... more

Advantages Advantages Franco's gripping central performance, intense atmosphere, exciting and moving throughout

Disadvantages Disadvantages None - perhaps the violent ending is a put-off factor for some

How would you go about describing Aron Ralston? Self-sufficient? Selfish? Brave? Adventurous? Idiotic? An outcast? Macho? All-round American lad? A show-off? Resourceful? Edgy? Free-spirited? An arrogant, egocentric maniac? These all seem to suit the explorer who ended up having to cut off one of his arms after getting it trapped under a heavy rock…with a blunt blade. He survived after that, and is still climbing and travelling all over the globe; with more caution this time round though. This entire experience, according to Ralston himself, can be summed up with an “oops.” He decided not to ... more

Star – Danny Boyle Certificate – 15 Run Time – 94 minutes Country – USA Genre – Adventure Oscars – 6 nominations Rental – 99p a night @Blockbusters ------------------------------------------------- So, 127 Hours, Danny Boyles latest, my current favorite director now a big player in Hollywood and so getting to do the films he wants to do, decent size budgets if need be. Problem is he reverts back to what he knows best and does small niche movies with that bigger budget flexibility, the appeal of seeing some bloke cut his arm off after having it trapped behind a boulder for six days hardly ... more

Advantages Advantages Franco's performance; stunning scenery; length; soundtrack

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightrly boring for 15 minutes in the middle

According to reports, many Americans fainted during this film. I wouldn’t take that as any indication of what 127 Hours is actually like to watch though, despite the fact that it was directed by Danny Boyle (well-known for his scenes of gruesome gore and hard-hitting realism). I mean, remember, the first audiences to watch The Blair Witch Project reportedly needed travel sickness tablets to cope with the shaky camera effects. Going into this, I was gearing myself up for some pretty horrific scenes, for the reasons given above, but actually the whole thing was surprisingly well done, with the ... more

Advantages Advantages Engrossing storytelling, adeptly-blended soundtrack and visuals, James Franco's impressive role.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sags in the middle.

Two years on from the mega-hit Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours in some ways seems a strange enxt project for director Danny Boyle - or indeed any filmmaker. Very much a one-man story, its undeniable opening and closing drama bookends an awful lot of not very much at all - by definition, the tale of a man trapped in a remote Utah canyon is a pretty lonely affair, and while it's easy to appreciate the human drama inherit in the pun-tastic Between a Rock and a Hard Place (protagonist Aron Ralston's book), transferring it to ninety-odd minutes of entertaining film must have been a challenge ... more

Advantages Advantages Direction, Script, Story, and Acting

Disadvantages Disadvantages I cant think of any but may be little short.

127 Hours is one of the masterpieces directed lately. The film is about pain and suffering out of which reformity and will to survive triggers senses and controls. This is a true story of a mountain climber Mr. Ralston. James Franco (Aron Ralston) starts his day with all the daily routines. He is fully equipped for just another day in Grand Canyon under steam hot sun cycling across the red sand with confidence and joy. He meets 2 hikers who are there for a quick sight around the rocks. He guides them and continue his search for a perfect spot. He crashes with his arm trapped with a big rock ... more

Brilliant film!! I saw this film twice in the cinema. For me, I thought the film was brilliant both times around. A Danny Boyle movie - very cleverly directed, and I’d say just AS GOOD as his other two big movies like Slumdog millionaire and Trainspotting. I don’t really have anything negative to say about this film!! This is a true story about Aron Rolston’s experience...played by James Franco (Harry in Spiderman). Franco, is perfect for the role I think. At first the character is a little off-putting, as he is really arrogant and a little too over-confident and smug, and doesn’t really ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some gruesome scenes

Fortunately I have never been stuck in a life or death situation, so I have no idea how I would cope if that were to happen to me. The 2010 film, 127 Hours, tells the real life story of a man who get trapped when a boulder falls on top of him. 127 Hours is set in the year 2003 and tells the real life story of mountain climber Aron Ralston during one of his many adventures. One day when he undertakes a day of canyoneering in Utah's Canyonlands National Park. However, after a good start to his day, meeting two Kristi and Megan, who he guides to a wonderful underground pool. After parting company ... more
