Advantages: Flemingesque, with a welcome touch of realism Disadvantages: the unfair stigma of lazenby
...turns, and yay! we get to see Bond's office, and realise that he is an agent of the government as opposed to a freelancing superman.
it was only recently that this often butchered film was restored to it's original running time, with the Gebruder-Gumbold section - tense with an excellent theme from Barry, and a short sequence featuring a fellow agents attemnpts to reach Piz Gloria, often missing from the British print.
there is so much good about this film, and it is sad that it is regarded so lowly by the public at large, convinced it was some sort of turkey. the film did well at the box office but paled in comparison with the takings of Thunderball and YOLT. we would have to wait until 1981 and For Your Eyes Only to see another return to the grittier literary world of Fleming, and it is a shame that the filmakers lost their way so badly...

DVD Description
Answering a distress call from Africa, two rival scientists set out for the Lost World and find it threatened with destruction by sinister oil prospectors. The savaging of the once beautiful land has caused a dormant volcano to reawaken and the scientists must battle both man and nature to save the Lost World and themselves.
Advantages: Sublime performances, lush cinematography Disadvantages: If you've never been "lost", you might not lose yourself in this
...Sofia Coppola's blurry-eyed, neon-saturated welcome into nighttime Tokyo gets me every time. That moment when you step off the plane, catch the first bus, buy your first tram ticket, when it feels as if the entire world has turned on its head. The world you remember at home exists only in your mind, and you find homely comfort in the most unexpected of places.
Through a dazzling soundtrack and sublime performances from Johansson and Murray, you live and breath every moment of the abstract normality with them. You get to see the amazing sights of Tokyo, the quirks of Japanese and the confused romance of two unlikely visitors.
For anyone who has ever spent just two weeks in a foreign country, reaching the end of this film will give the same feeling of returning home. For those two weeks you've quite literally been "lost in translation...

Advantages: Nice Trailer, actually more promising than the movie itself! Disadvantages: They tried and they failed to make a movie about a difficult genre
...I first heard of Lost Souls in a Trailer clip that advertised it before as I was waiting for Unbreakable to start in a local Cinema...
I must admit the initial trailer for the movie had me gripped as it portrayed what I felt looked and sounded like an excellent potential movie for me to see on my next trip to Warner Village Cinema... Sadly however when I did return to see the 'full' version of Lost Souls it turned out that the original trailer for the movie had provided me with more entertainment that the when I sat down to watch the Film in its entirety.. Lost Souls is one of those very poor films that somehow managed to make it to the Cinema instead of going straight to its rightful home on the bottom shelf of the Video Store or the obscure late night TV schedule of Bravo or the Sci Fi Channel...
The Genre of Satan / The Devil...

...The LostWorld, was actually extremely good as far as sequels go. Most of the time the follow ups to a movie a just a pahetic attmempt to make a little more cash out of people. But since both “Jurassic Park” and “The lostWorld” were taken from the great Michel Criten books, they both result in being really, really good movies. They are really the only films with dinosaurs in so they got a hell of a lot of attention.
Most people have already seen both of the two movies now; they were good for their time....
