Video game to movie conversions are funny things. What can make a great story in a game doesn't always makie for great viewing as a film. Mortal Combat for example, great game, crap movie (although I like because its soo bad!).
What a relief then that this is not one of them simple cash ins, this is a great film. Although some people disagree with me I think that it is a really good film thats enjoyable to watch more than once. Its one of them films that if you have in your DVD collection you can always watch when you're bored.
It has a great appeal to it, its fast, slick full of action and a story that never over complicates itself. The whole idea is simple; a city has been taken over my a virus, the people want to escape, the only way to escape is to find the daughter of the scientist who developed the virus, and on the way run into loads of zombies and kick their butts.
There is slightly more too it than that but you could watch simply on that level if you wanted to. The action sequences are great and there are some really nice set pieces, e.g. when Alice (Milla Jovovich) runs vertically down a building. It looks amazing! And she actually did some of it herself (I watched the special features).
Fans of the game will be imressed also Jill Valantine (character for the game) plays an excellent role in the film and the competion betwwen her and Alice has been captured brilliantly. The introduction of Carlos is a welcome one also, and he plays a sort of flirty love interest but nothing seroius (thank god). As well as this they've even included some of the scenes from the game; the helicopter shooting here in the glass building being an example.
A very good film to watch with your mates or on your own and its a very good sequeal. It picks up from exacltly where the first one left off but doesn't alienate people who haven't seen the first one.
Any problems? Well at the end of the day its not going to win any Oscars, the simple story is also its own downfall, theres not enough to get into if you are a seroius film watcher. Some of the effects aren't amazing and the slowness of the zombies makes you wonder some times why the characters have such a hard time from them, you could just jog away from them and they wouldn't catch you.
Overall more of a film for guys than girls, (not sexest) the two main charcters are scantliy clad women putting some seroius foot to ass.
Well worth a watch, and if its going for a fiver its a wicked film to have in anyones DVD collection.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.

Your reviews are so beautifully written - pleasure to read. :) I like the movie, too. This is one of those "loud movies" I don't mind watching. :)
