If you have seen the first Resident Evil movie, get ready for some big surprises. The Hive has been reopened, and the Virus roams free in Raccoon City. Alice has awoken to find a strange change has occured. Jill Valentine and the others have been sealed inside the infested city, with only a few hours left to get out, and the Nemesis is coming... "S.T.A.R.S..."
(Someone asked me to put information on "S.T.A.R.S". S.T.A.R.S are the "Special Tactics And Rescue Service". They are the targets of the Nemesis, the Elite of Raccoon City. The quote just above was the only thing Nemesis said in the game. "S.T.A.R.S...")
If you've played the games, expect nothing similar except for looks. This movie and the previous one is best viewed without too much connection to the games. The name doesn't quite suit this movie. It was originally going to be called "Resident Evil: Nemesis", after the game of the same name, but the same year, "Star Trek: Nemesis" flopped, so they changed it. But in truth, this movie does not deserve to be called a horror, although there are some rather shocking/startling/scary scenes. It's more like an action movie, with some minor elements of horror added into it (Zombies, Lickers, other monsters, the less than creepy Nemesis...)
Let me say this first. I love Resident Evil: Nemesis. The game is great. And so is the movie. But "Nemesis" from the movie doesn't match up to the one from the game. And "Alice" has changed from a normal, if very kickass, girl to... a showoff. That's right. Alice in "Apocalypse" has become a showoff. Jill Valentine is pushed to one side, her past with the zombies not even explained, although she apparently has one. The newspapers in the beginning, and "Shoot for the head." tells us that. Alice is in the spotlight nearly all the time, and Jill is... a tiny bit annoying.
There is a smart, cute little girl, modelled off of Sherry Birkin, with the name of "Angela Ashford". The backstory of T-virus has been switched around - Veronica Ashford and her famous Ashford Family has gone bye-bye, to be replaced with a shy, crippled man and his Sherry-Clone of a daughter.
Don't think I don't like this movie. It's one of my favourites. I love it. I'm just trying to get the point across... do NOT associate this movie with the games. Consider it an "AU" - Alternate Universe - if you can. And watch out for the Lickers and the Cerbereus. Oh! Also, if you HAVE seen the games, watch out for a few scenes literally ripped off from Nemesis and Code: Veronica.
But yeah. This is a very good action movie, with a new and improved? Alice. Watch the extras on the DVD too! All of them. Milla Jovovitch rocks. And the extras are very funny too.

A good review and a good description of the film but could do with more information about the film (such as director and cast, or making of the film). -=- Hoethir -=-

Good review, though a bit more info regarding exactly what S.T.A.R.S. is / are and a bit more about the cast / characters would be more useful for people. I liked the comparisons you made, though think it may be safe to assume that the first movie was best :) M x
