The umbrella company "the largest and most powerful corporation in the world," is up to no good once again, the virus unleashed in the first Resident Evil has now reached above ground and is infecting the population or Racoon City. This virus is killing them but....they are not truly dead yet!
This results in lots of zombies infesting the city, alot of zombies! Adult zombies, child zombies and even hooker zombies are the result of the virus.
Alice (Mila Jovovich) who once was head of security in 'The Hive' has now joined a group in Racoon City trying to flee the zombies, but first she must save a scientists daughter in order for the scientist to tell them how to get out.
The group has a guy with a video camera, two rescue operatives and a 'too clever for his own good' character (Mike Epps).
Like the orignal this is still more of a videogame than a film, but it has to be said this is a vast improvement over the original which was a bit dissapointing. But it does have some great acting and funny moments from Epps trying to break the tension and some classic Tomb Raider style hand-to-hand combat from Jovovich.
For fans of this movie there is something to cheers about, at the end one of the characters gets 'rebooted' in a sense implying there will be a Resident Evil 3. which is kind of ironic, just like the zombies I don't think this trilogy is ever going to stay dead!
Being serious though, this film was ok but perhaps a little too many zombies for its own good. As a player of the game series I found it quite exciting but from a perspective of someone who's never played one of the 'Resident Evil' titles, it may all seem a little confusing.
One warning though, this film does contain very gory scenes and i would not rate this film suitable for a family audience. It's target audience is more the younger/teenage audience.
In conclusion its a watchable film, not a blockbuster but credit must be given for the improvement from the original. A really good watch for anyone who's played the game.
