...something to the stories....?
Reign Of Fire is a film that takes the dragon legends of old, gives them a plausible background, then deposits them on the world of today, with devastating results. It goes something like this....
PLOT:
---
Dragons exist. In actual fact, dragons have existed on Earth for millions and millions of years, and were, in fact, responsible for the dinosaurs' demise. You see, the dragons hibernate for millions of years at ... ...This is best illustrated in Reign Of FIre in a scene where Quinn and Creedy perform a two man play for the community's children - and the piece they are performing just happens to be "The Empire Strikes Back"! Also, Quinn makes the children say their prayers every night - but they are not prayers as you or I would know them. Instead, praying has become a mantra for survival....
Quinn: "What do we do when we're awake?"
Kids in unison: "Keep both ...

...of a dragon... Reign of Fire is undoubtedly a movie which would not have been well received or perhaps the idea not have been conceived of were it not for Peter Jackson's visually stunning Lord of The Rings adaptation but I for one am glad of it's existence. The fantasy genre has been abysmally served over the years, with movies of poor budget, appauling script and abysmal special effects littering what should surely be one of the most exciting movie ... ...movie of this type and Reign Of Fire might just be the second - although obviously a much lower budget production. Movies about dragons themselves have been uniformly bad or for kids, Dragonheart springs to mind, yet the creatures are one of the most fascinating and enduring in the fantasy genre which makes their poor treatment in movies all the more saddening. Any fan of fantasy *loves* the majestic beasts and I've been waiting for a flippin' long ...

Advantages: The special effects are quite good Disadvantages: Everything else
This film is absolutely dire, Quite how this made it to the cinema screens, I will never know? Perhaps it has a lot to do with the director, Rob Bowman. I have a lot of respect for this man, well at least I did. His television credits are long and impressive. Director of such great series as Start trek: the next generation, The X-files, Quantum Leap, Alien Nation and of course Baywatch (alright Baywatch was naff but worship by millions of horny teenaged ... ...guess this gave him the weight to bring such a travesty to the big screen. So why did I hate it so much? Read on…

...I had a copy of Reign of Fire for us to watch, they were quite curious. When I told them it was about dragons, they simply laughed. Thanks to countless comedy, family or downright silly films involving dragons, their reputation is somewhat undermined. Reign of Fire is an unusual film, because it portrays the dragons as vicious, dangerous creatures that have literally brought about Armageddon, so I was quite curious as to how the subject matter had ... ...The trouble with Reign of Fire is that it visibly struggles to try and contend with two dominant concepts, and probably fails to deliver a good yarn on either. On the one hand, we have a conventional monster story, which leads to a demand for action, excitement and large-scale special effects. On the other, we have the human story of the wretched people who are struggling to survive in the barren landscape that the dragons have created. Neither of ...

Regular readers of “Empire” magazine will know that this movie has had their staff writers creaming their kecks all summer long, all based on...a poster. And admittedly what a poster it is. London engulfed in a fiery inferno as an a battle of Apocalyptic proportions takes place in the sky between dragons and apache attack helicopters.
Man its just so damned crazy it could work.
Hum well……
The movie starts in more or less ... ...in an underground construction site, part of the extension of the Jubilee line just as the workers uncover something very ancient, very scarey and very pissed. Fast forward 20-odd years, a montage of destruction and we are in a castle in Northumberland?( well I guess all movies have to be set somewhere). The Earth is a scorched wasteland having been torched by millions of dragons (for it was such a beast that was unleashed in the London Underground), ...

DVD Description
In present-day London, 10 year-old Quinn visits his construction engineer mother at her work. When he crawls into a cavern the workers have uncovered, he finds a large, fire-breathing dragon--which destroys the site and kills his mother. Fast-forward to 2020. Quinn (Christian Bale, AMERICAN PSYCHO) is living in a castle in Northumberton, the leader of survivors of the dragon plague which has wiped out a large portion of the human population. He and his colony, including dozens of orphans, eke out an existence in hopes that the human race will someday take back the planet from the gigantic, winged monsters. Enter Van Zan (Matthew McConaughey), a war-mad American and his team of military trained fighters. They offer to team up with Quinn and his people, but only if they consent to the American's extreme tactics to destroy the fire-breathing beasts. Directed by Rob Bowman (X FILES), REIGN OF FIRE combines elements of ALIENS, THE ROAD WARRIOR, and 1981's DRAGONSLAYER for a potent genre cocktail that takes a traditionally medieval monster into the future and injects it into state-of-the-art action sequences. The film plays as post-apocalyptic sci-fi, but the stunningly executed dragon sequences are pure horror, especially as the menacing creatures slaughter prominent characters with extreme speed and ruthlessness.
