Dolphs character is Nikolai Rachenko, who is a Soviet agent trained as a human killing machine. At the beginning Nikolai is assigned to infiltrate a rebel African guerilla uprising, eventually he is put in a prison after a little sing song and shoving in a bar, seeing Dolph sing and push people around was quite amusing.
In prison he meets an american journalist Dewey and Kallunda, and finds himself drawn to the guerillas' cause, the three men then go on the run through the desert to find camp. Dewey is one of the highlights of the film, he mixes humour and deep emotion and anger all together and makes a interesting character which without him, the film wouldnt have been as good, he was definately needed.
After getting to the rebal camp with his new friends, Nikolai is locked up for 'safety reasons' but easily escapes and attempts the assassination of the leader (what he was orginally planning to do) BUT he is caught and left in the desert for his old Soviet pals to find.
Here comes the gruesome pins in the skin bit, where the Colonel gets very long pins and punctures Nikolais upper body with them, VERY realistic and had me cringing!
After escaping again by abit of killing he trails the desert and is eventually bitten by a scorpion, he is then saved and taken in by a bushman, here he learns about their culture and is named Red Scorpion and given the all important Scorpion tattoo, Nikolai turns his back on the Russians and meets back up with Kallunda and co and they all go to attack the russians at their base.
The bushman was brilliant, even more so after finding out he was a real bushman that they found. The bushman even managed to crack a smile out of Nikolai which seemed impossible, there was some educational bits in there where we see how bushman live and survive.
Overall the film is entertaining, if you're a Dolph fan its most likely you'll enjoy it. There is some light humour in bits and some good action scenes with explosions. A downside is the ending was very dull and predictable, I feel this film could have been made more exciting towards the end, but if you enjoy lots of guns and blood its a decent ending!
