Dave Navarro), Californication--the band's seventh album--saw them reunited with both errant guitarist John Frusciante (hauled out of a long and debilitating heroin addiction) and producer Rick Rubin, whose mixture of commerical nous and sonic smarts helped make 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik their breakthrough set. It's a welcome reunion: Frusciante's playing, in particular--tight, yet lyrical--fits these songs like a second skin, lending them a sensual sort of ease that is perfectly in keeping with the reckless hedonism of their lyrics. The songs themselves are much the same mixture of adrenalised swagger and high-tensile funk as ever. And typically, there are two or three fillers here ("Emit Remmus", "Purple Stain") which probably should have been left on the shelf. Ultimately, though, it's their ballads ("Road Trippin'", the moody, desolate "Scar Tissue") which really demonstrate their strengths, both as songwriters and arrangers--and reveal, albeit briefly, the hearts this crew normally take such pains to conceal. --Andrew McGuire
Navarro, formerly of Jane's Addiction. A difficult sixth album, especially after the phenomenal success of Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik; in true form, the band beats a p-funk groove, be it bittersweet ballad or abrasive punk. More progressive than their previous offerings, songs like "One Big Mob" and "Warped" blur the fine line between frenetic power-metal and intense psychedelia. At the quieter end of this infinitely coloured spectrum are the signature ballads for which they are so revered and "My Friends" does the job perfectly. One Hot Minute has got everything a Chili Peppers record should need and then some, as their music grows in all manner of wondrous new directions. --David Trueman

Advantages: Behind the scenes look ot an album being produced Disadvantages: Black and White
...The RedHotChiliPeppers were formed over 20 years ago and with their latest release , Californication, have reinvented the funk / pop genre. This DVD takes a look at how the RedHots recorded their 1991 success Blood Sugar Sex Magic. The DVD starts of with Anthony (the lead singer) talking about his influences and then then the DVD takes a look at how each song on the album was created.
One drawback is that the DVD is in black and white, but this does not detract much from the enjoyment of the DVD.
This DVD is a must for any fan of the RedHotChiliPeppers and is very interesting for anyone who is interested in music at all....

Advantages: quality sound and video recording, sweet live performance Disadvantages: Zero..none at all
...As per usual an amazing live performance from one of the best bands of our times the redhotchilipeppers. this DVD is of their live sell out performance in Slane Castle in Dublin, Ireland. if you are a RedHotChiliPepper fan then this is a "GRAB IT NOW" because there is no chance of a disapproval. The sound is electric and exhilarating and the video recording is superb. the light set up and special effects they used at this show are great to watch. the DVD features many tracks like under the bridge,by the way, californication and many more of the bands greatest hits with a few rather slick and funky jams in between. compared with other similar recordings of live performance i would definitely call this a superior. too be really honest i wish i had one or two disadvantages to write in here but there aren't any so just get out and buy...

I bought this DVD about 2 years ago from my local Asda for £9.99. I don't know the reason why I bought it but I loved it! I watched the videos to 'Can't Stop' and 'By The Way' because they were 2 songs I had heard. 'Can't Stop' is a very random video including many weird props to make up the video such as dustbins and glowsticks. 'By The Way' has...
