I'd first like to mention that this series is a slight improvement from series 7.on two accounts:-
1. Rimmer returns!
2. They bring back the live audience.
________________________________________________ THE STORYLINE FOR THIS SERIES: ________________________________________________
Series 8 concludes straight from Series 7. The Red Dwarf crew which is Lister, Cat, Kryten and Kochanski, sail back into the new Red Dwarf that was re-created by the Nanobots. However, Red Dwarf appears to be larger than what it use to look like (in terms of length and space. It makes Starbug look like a pea!)
As the Starbug crew sail their way through a massive Red Dwarf, they find themselves going through a length, yet humourous, escipade! After they crash-land into the cargo bay of Red Dwarf, they find themselves in the midst of the original Red Dwarf crew due to the fact that the Nanobots ressurrected the crew.
Our beloved Starbug crew face themselves going to jail, however, they try to escape
with the help of a not-so-dead Rimmer. Lister persuades him to help them, in return, he can make Rimmer the smeggy Officier he's always dreamed about! However, the Captain of Red Dwarf, Captain Hollister, has stuck the crew in an Artificial Reality suite to see them escape...to which they failed because he staged it all up in the first place.
Thus, making the Red Dwarf gang, including Rimmer, prisoners. However, that doesn't mean it goes downhill for them...they get up to a lot of fun!

I was pleased to find out that they had brought back the Red Dwarf spaceship, but dissapointed that they used CGI instead of the model. The CGI of Red Dwarf was completely different to the model in terms of the way it looked (the length and look of it).
Also, bringing back the dead crew was not a wise decision. The whole purpose, and the reason why we fans have enjoyed it, was that the loneliness being in deep space allowed us to see the small amount of characters interacting with each other. Their interaction was free and not restricted by anyone (hence the reason why it's so humourous!).
In terms of the episodes, the quality remains up to a high standard, however I do believe that this series is a lot more fun than the others as the Red Dwarf crew adapt to their new lifestyle.
Sadly, this is the last series that has been made (which was way back in 1999). As the majority of you Red Dwarf fans will know that we have been waiting for the long anticipated movie! It was promised to be made back in the early 2000's....well here we are pushing on, almost near 2010 and it's still not here.
Doug Naylor has been thwarted by circumstances, e.g..due to funding. He has long persisted with his conviction that the making of the movie (for which the script has been written for many years) takes precedence over the production of a ninth TV series. But now he's concerned about the cast as they have gotten older since their last series. Naylor is still not too sure whether a Series 9 is the wisest thing to do, or a Red Dwarf Special (If I were him, I'd do the special because it's inbetween a movie and a series).
What a long, long time in space these dudes have been in! And a long time we've followed them! We've been along with them, seen their enemies, joined in their adventures...it's been great!
Red Dwarf has been such a hit all over the world! And I'm so glad that the DVD's have been treated with care! They've really spoiled the fans with ALL their special features and extra's and so much more! Thanks for that!
The little Skutter toy is lovely! But I just wished it was a wind-up one that would spin around also. That would be a tad better than a 'push-along' toy.
It's a shame there wasn't a proper ending because the crew deserved it! But Doug Naylor did say that we could make our own endings in our head.....sorry Doug! Doesn't do me any justice!
So....my final thoughts about us getting a proper ending for Red Dwarf? Here's my answer: SMEG KNOWS!
