expressly as star vehicles for the great television comic Tony Hancock. The Rebel is by far the more ambitious, being in colour with Parisian locations, a large cast...
Advantages: Always welcome to have Hancock on DVD Disadvantages: Awful transfers, no extras
...If this is the film I proposed four weeks ago, then where is the other half of it? This DVD features both of Tony Hancocks film vehicles, the 1961 effort 'The Rebel' and the 1963 'Punch and JudyMan'. Neither go anywhere near to capturing the genius of the performer so loved on radio and television, but they do at least give us the chance to stick him on our shelves for rainy days, while we wait patiently for more BBC releases of his material.
'The Rebel' was scripted by regular Hancock writers Galton and Simpson, with help from the star. It tells of the imprisonment of Anthony Hancock, a man with so much to give the world, but trapped in the everyday grind of everyday work. Breakfast, train, work, train, home...and then just for a few hours, Hancock can let loose his creative forces. In the backroom of his lodgings, with beret donned...

...I thought it was time this film was mentioned, especially as this year sees the 50th anniversary of his death on September 30th.
I first saw this film when I was 11 years old in the early 80's and the mood of the film affected me deeply even though it was made in 1955 and the star, James Dean was long dead.
The plot would be seen as cliched now, young troubled youth starts new school and struggles to fit in, but when it was made it was groundbreaking in that it acknowledged that teenagers weren't all like Richie Cunningham from Happy Days. They say that James Dean invented the teenager, or at least gave them a public face/voice. Someone once said that before he came along you were either a boy or a man - there was nothing in between.
The film isn't about plot anyway - what makes it special is the combination if talent that would never...

Advantages: delightful film to watch, good acting as well. Disadvantages: none
...BORN YESTERDAY is a very fine film,it stars JUDY HOLIDAY, WILLIAM HOLDEN and BRODRICK CRAWFORD, JUDY HOLIDAYS CHARACTOR in the film is that of a dumb blonde, she is the mistress of a (he thinks)important man.
BRODRICK CRAWFORD, is the man he deals in scrap metal and has become a millionair,he wants to educate his mistress, so he asks WILLIAM HOLDEN to do the job for him.
She really knows nothing but how to paint her nails and do her hair....the making of the JUDY HOLIDAY charactor is in some ways very like the film EDUCATING RITA of course they fall in love and she becomes very educated it is a great film and I can recomend it, the acting is superb,I have watched this film many times and you see some thing in it differently each time you watch it ...ITS GREAT....
