...I honestly at some points in the theater had to remind myself that it was 3D!!! It was SO realistic in many ways it felt like a real life sci fi movie! The modeling, and texturing and lighting of most all the characters was near perfection, and PERFECT for the old man character!! The biggest imperfection was the animation. For some reason they did not use motion capture. Don't get me wrong it was SUPERB animation! Just that the animation is the biggest problem for making it believable and realistic. The old man doctor was amazing... he looked damn near realistic! as if it were real video! a real actor! except for his movements.... nothing else ta say about this movie other than the plot needs a LOT of work!!! and that all sci fi movies should be 3D from now on!!...

...The movie Gladiator is an impressive reincarnation of one of the greatest civilizations in history. It is an extraordinary recreation of the glory as well as the flaws of the Roman Empire along with an intriguing overlying story about a noble general named Maximus (Crowe). The movie set in the latter part of the Roman Empire gives any and everyone a chance to see the glory that was Rome in the detailed almost realistic reconstructions of the city in its entirety. From the Colosseum to the villas we are able to marvel at the beauty of Roman architecture as well as daily life for a people reduced to what is now just history and preserved statues and buildings. The costumes were quite impressive as well....

Advantages: Damn scary, intelligent and very well made for a horror film Disadvantages: A little difficult to take the rotating head seriously i'm afraid!
...When I first saw this film (actually it was an edited down version on super 8mm) about 20 years ago, it scared me rigid. Mind you I was 12. I've been trying to watch the whole film since and at last they've put it on DVD and it almost scared me rigid again. It can lay claim to being the best horror movie ever made because it deals intelligently, frighteningly and realistically with it's subject of the nature of evil. I've read the novel and it's pretty close to that - William Blatty wrote the novel and the screenplay so it follows. Director William Freidkin utilises his gritty 'French Connection' style to great effect with grainy, deeply coloured film stock and natural lighting, and the music is just right. But it's the gradual build up of terror and suspense that make it so good....
