This is one of the greatest animated movies ever! I usually rush and watch all new Disney/Pixar movies but as soon as I heard of Ratatouille, I thought- Eeew! No way am I going to watch a movie about rats! Knowing how realistic and graphic Pixar's animation and picture quality is, I wanted to stay away from this movie as far as possible. However, I finally ended up watching it and the first thing I have to say about this movie is: If like me you hate rats and never saw that movie because of that, then there is seriously no need to worry. All the rats depicted in the movie might just make you cringe for the first few seconds, but after that, it becomes one of the greatest animated movies ever!
The plot is about a highly-sensitive-to-good-food rat called Remy. He is sick and tired to rummage through dustbins for some rotten food with his rat family. One day, pure chance leads him away from the pack and he
gets trapped for days in an underwater tunnel. There, he develops an imaginary friend in the form of the legendary but deceased French Chef, Gusteau. As he begins his discussions about food with the imaginary Chef, he is gradually led to the famous restaurant, where he meets Linguini, a low-working boy who aspires to be invisible. An out of the ordinary but touching relationship starts to bloom from there on. This is one of the greatest animated movies ever! I was stunned by the marvellous and realistic storyline and features. This is quite easily much better than any other non-animated movies I have ever watched before! The themes in the movies are simple, and both children or adults will understand and love the themes in their own way. I personally believe that this is a movie for all ages and tastes because it comprises so many elements and even morals. That does not however mean that Ratatouille is too heavy or boring. On the contrary, there are many important life lessons (especially for adults!) to be learned out of the movie, but Pixar puts these lessons forward in a very entertaining manner. At no point will you want to reach for the remote control and switch the movie off. It is always sad to see a great movie end, but I particularly loved the fact that the movie does not end when you expect it to. Indeed, small twists and turns to the plot add up to the movie duration, much to the delight of the audience. Trust me, this is not a movie that you will want to end quickly!
The characters are all endearing, sassy and realistic. Remy is of course the main figure in the movie but other minor characters also form up to contribute towards some elements in the plot. Pixar remains true to its light plotting, and so even the villain in the movie does not appear extremely Machiavellian or grotesque in any way. Even during the most serious moments of the movie, there is always something to smile, if not laugh about.
The visual and sound effect is outstanding- exactly what one would expect of a Pixar movie. The graphic is deep and great three-dimensional detail provided. Overall, whatever might your age be, this is most certainly a movie to see!

Advantages: Incredible picture quality, immersive story line, a movie the whole family can enjoy. Disadvantages: None - I can't find any weaknesses with Ratatouille on Disney Blu Ray.
