For those of you that are familiar with my previous reviews you will have no doubt gathered that I do have a love for all things Disney and from the day I first saw the trailer for Ratatouille I was desperate to watch it but it was only yesterday that I got around to actually watching it when the DVD was released.
*~*The Characters*~*
Remy a rat with a dream to become a Chef he differs to his friends and family in that he has a distinct smell and creativity that makes his dishes so successful but he is still a rat and he has many obstacles to overcome before he can reach his life long dream.
Linguini a young man new to the restaurant world he is employed at Auguste Gusteau's gourmet restaurant as a garbage boy who seems to be so clumsy it generally results in him losing his job but this time he wants to hold on to this one and a chance encounter with Remy changes what the future holds for him.
Colette is the only female chef and this has created her into a tough character competing with tough
male chef's, she is asked to look after Linguini within the kitchen which she finds the toughest task yet.
Skinner is a typical Disney character he looks evil right from the start. The head chef at Gusteau's restaurant he thinks branded products are the way forward and when Linguini arrives on the scene he thinks that there is more to him than meets the eye.
Ego is the most critical food critic in Paris a pale coloured man who simply drains the soul out of any restaurant with his disastrous reviews the mere sight of him makes any Chef crumble to the ground.
Emile is Remy's brother, he is overweight and loves eating garbage. Emile provides the image to us of what we all believe a rat to act like and look like.
Gusteau is France's most famous chef and the author of Remy's favourite cookbook "Anyone can Cook" he is the reason that Remy dreams of becoming a chef. Gusteau sadly passed away but he lives on in Remy's imagination guiding him to his dream.
*~*What's the Story?*~*
Remy resides in a French house with his family and friends, the main difference between Remy and his family is that Remy loves good quality food and preparing good quality food.
Remy has developed a passion for cooking and become a fan of Chef Auguste Gusteau who recently passed away mysteriously after a terrible review by renowned critic Ego.
Remy finds his way to Gusteau's restaurant, which has lost its passion since Gusteau's death and the take over of new manager Gusteau's sous-chef, Skinner, who believes that he can use Gusteau's image to sell ready meals. One day when Remy is watching over the restaurant kitchen through a skylight he notices new garbage boy, Linguini, for whom Skinner has no respect. Unknown to both Skinner and the boy is the fact that Linguini is Gusteau's son. Remy watches in horror as Linguini spills soup on the floor when mopping up and attempts to fix the soup by filling it with random ingredients. Remy watches in horror and decides to enter the kitchen and fix the soup properly and this is when Linguini sees Remy for the first time. Skinner discovers that Linguini has been cooking, but that the soup had just been given to a food critic, Solene LeClaire however to Skinner's surprise, she loves it. Colette, convinces Skinner not to fire Linguini, and Skinner agrees as long as Linguini can recreate the soup then he can stay and cook in the kitchen and it looks like Skinner is once again getting the passion back for this restaurant through Linguini.
Linguini soon discovers that Remy can understand him, and they agree to work together secretly, so that Linguini can keep his job and Remy can fulfill his dream of cooking.
A dream partnership is built with Linguini being controlled by Remy under his chef's hat and this provides some comical moments, it is difficult to even guess the outcome of the film and what the main storyline is but if you like Disney this is definitely a must-see move, I enjoyed it even if my other half found it boring in parts and a little dull.
The picture quality is again great although it is easy to spot similarities between The Incredibles characters and the humans featured in Ratatouille but if that is my only complaint the film must be pretty good.
Ratatouille is most definitely a family film and I am sure that any viewer will enjoy the ending of this film and the animation once again is superb and there are definitely some funny moments in this film that work well combined with romance and friendship.
Another success from Disney Pixar.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? Advantages: Incredible picture quality, immersive story line, a movie the whole family can enjoy. Disadvantages: None - I can't find any weaknesses with Ratatouille on Disney Blu Ray.
