...proposal - he offers a ransom to anyone who gets his son back safe and sound.
Watch out for some great shocking scenes and excellent characters played by Mel Gibson and Rene Russo as the Mum and Dad of the kidnapped boy.
Watch out for the twist at the end!
My Opinion:
Now I must admit that I loved this film, Mel Gibson really does show that he can act in this film with a moving performance of a Hard Man and Dad in turmoil with his sons kidnapping. ... ...but I think she does a good job in this film as well. As I have mentioned, the story is really good although quite basic. You have the evil kidnappers, the family and of course the cops chasing the kidnappers. All three work together to get the final finish - and it is an excellent finish.
I am being very careful exactly what I write here, because I do not want to spoil any part of the film, especially the part twist that there is. So apologies ...

...Kid On The Block is not as bad as I thought he would be. So, I give Ransom a thumbs up. And recommend this film to those of you who are wanting to see a well-produced action-packed thriller. It is rather Hollywood, but it is Hollywood good. ...

Advantages: Some good twists,Good acting from Gary Sinise Disadvantages: Poor acting from Mel Gibson
...In RANSOM, Mel Gibson and Rene Russo lose their son to a handful of grungy kidnappers in Central Park and spend the rest of the movie trying to get him back.
Gibson plays Tom Mullen, a Self-Made Airline Millionaire who's a bit of a publicity hound, and Rene Russo plays the fragile wife.
This film has occasional suspence, but I can't help but feel it was a wasted opportunity. From an early point it looked like it had potential, but the plot and suspence is somewhat lost by a sub-standard performance from Mel Gibson.
Mullen gets the help of the FBI against the wished of the terrorists, and after a (very predictable) bungled money-drop to pay off the kidknappers he begins to believe that they will kill his son whatever he does.
This is where the twist of the film comes. The FBI and Mullen's wife tell him to pay them off...

Advantages: Good action scenes Disadvantages: Not a lot
...After the very successul Lethal Weapon series of films it was good to see Mel Gibson actually appear in a film that did not overly rely on the buddy cop formula that Lethal Weapon relied on so much.
Gibson plays a rich successful businessmanwith a happy hme life. One day this is shatterred when his son is kidnapped and a ransom demand is received. Ay first Gibson plays along with the police advice however when the first handover goes horribly wrong he decides to take matters into his own hands with extreme consequencies.
This is a good tense thriller with some great performances by Gibson and also Gary Sinisie. Gibson is good as the anguished parent pushed to the edge and having to agonise over the decisions he has made. Given his recent problems with alcohol and anti jewish commenst sometimes it is nice to remember the fact that he...

...I love action movies and so thought that I would be bored when it came to watching Ransom. It is however a gripping and tense thriller with more twists and turns than Silverstone.
Usually I would give a detailed description of the plot but it is a rule of mine not to disclose so much it will spoil it. With this movie it is particularly hard due to their being numerous plot twists that you can’t see coming. Well I will try not to spoil it. Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson) is a hugely successful businessman. At a science fair Toms son is kidnapped in a split second. Now Tom and his wife (Rene Russo) receive pictures of their son gagged and bound and tied to a bed. They call in the FBI and agree to pay the Ransom. From there on there is a massive twist it which Tom takes a massive gamble with his sons life. That’s all I am saying. You...

DVD Description
An adventure thriller filmed in Norway with good photography by Sven Nykvist. When international terrorists seize a passenger plane in Oslo, diplomacy is held hostage. Their demands: the release of jailed cohorts in England. Their bait: the British ambassador held captive in the jet. Only one man stands in the hijackers' way--Scandinavian security expert Nils Tahlvik. He's determined to stop the British government from granting the terrorists' wishes. Tahlvik and his adversaries face off in a cat-and-mouse game amid such breathtaking sights as the Norwegian mountains and the wild blue yonder. Things turn personal as Tahlvik matches wits with Petrie, the leader of the desperadoes. Concerned for her husband's well-being, the ambassador's wife pleads with Tahlvik to hand over the ransom. But Tahlvik is too busy trying to stay one step ahead of the terrorists--one of whom might be a British spy--to play into the hijackers' hands.
