I really enjoy the Rambo films, they are the type of film you can just sit back and relax to after a hard days work. You don't need to pay too much attention, so you can have a chat, enjoy a beer and enjoy the action on the screen...

The Story:

Basically Rambo (John J Rambo, to give him his full name), played by Sylvester Stallone, is a veteran of an elite unit which served in the Vietnam war. He has returned home, and is dissilusioned with the populations hatred of the returning soldiers.

The film opens with Rambo trying to get to his comrades house, however upon arrival Rambo finds out that his friend has since died of cancer. He heads along the highway towards the nearest town for a bite to eat. (Rambo is pretty much a drifter and looks scruffy in his army issue uniform jacket).

When Rambo gets into the town is when the film gets started really. The local Sherriff, Will Teasle (brilliantly played by Brian Dennehy) asks Rambo what exactly he is doing in his lovely little town and asks where he is headed. Rambo tells him and Teasle offers him a lift (obviously wanting rid of this drifter as soon as possible).

Once in the car Rambo asks if there is a place he can eat in town, Teasle tells him no, there is a diner 30 miles down the road and drops Rambo off on the outskirts of town, bye bye.

Teasle drives back to town, and Rambo figures he'll go back into Teasle's town and get himself some dinner! Teasle ends up arresting Rambo for vagrancy.

Rambo escapes from the small town jail and goes on the run. Teasle and his posse of deputies chase Rambo into the woods and attempt to bring him in...Rambo however is in his ellement, a Vietnam vet from an elite unit, with the congressional medal of honour under his belt against 5 or 6 hick town sherrifs in the wood is no real competition..Rambo's own personal one man war has just begun!

Richard Crenna makes an appearance in the film too, he plays Rambo's ex commanding officer who tries to help Rambo out by talking sense into the authorities.

This is not just an action film however, it is sad and moving at times, portraying how betrayed the returning soldiers from vietnam felt with the american public and government.

The musical score is also very good in my opinion. The music is by Jerry Goldsmith who rarely dissapoints.

'It's a long Road' is a great song, and a very sad one too..

This is a great, entertaining, moving film about more than just blood and guts.
