John Rambo is the last surviving member of an elite army unit from the Vietnam War. He is now a drifter, not quite right in the head but harmless enough if left alone. He wanders into a small town where the local police chief takes an instant dislike to him. He is 'asked' and then forced to leave town. When he wanders back, he is arrested and treated very badly. He escapes and takes his revenge on the town. This is a surprisingly good action movie showing the darker side of human nature. There's some quality action in it as well.
