Rambo - First Blood. (Film Review Only.)
=
I must confess when Rambo-First Blood was advertised in the Stallone Series currently being aired on Sky One I was a bit downhearted as I knew my Husband would want to watch it and this would mean either a very early night for me or being subjected to watching it. As you can guess I stayed up and sat down for what I thought would be mindless violence and bloodshed, well ... ...film 'Cobra'.
Rambo - First Blood is the first film in the Rambo trilogy starring Sylvester Stallone and is the least violent with the least number of bloodshed and casualties. However, this Trilogy Film set is due to change with the arrival of the long awaited arrival by Sylvester Stallone fans of Rambo IV, which is due for release in 2007 and again stars Stallone as John J Rambo.
An excellent film, which I highly recommend and give a 9.8/10 for ...

Advantages: a well done yet restrained action movie Disadvantages: none
...into a sweat, there was First Blood, the film that first brought him to our attention. Contrary to popular belief, the original film is actually quite good; no it's very good. It's surprisingly understated, well for an action movie that is, it moves at a logical pace and for all the reputation of its main character, it is not the blood bath that you expect it to be and it has a core theme that makes this slightly more thoughtful than your average ... ...It remains a rough and tumble boys own adventure story, but a good one at that.
John Rambo is a drifter, an ex-Vietnam veteran wandering the backwaters and by-ways of the American northwest Pacific Coast. Destined to remain an unwanted by-product of a war that the country wants to forget, his story begins when he wanders into the town of Hope and encounters Sheriff Will Teasle. Teasle doesn't work for the law, he is the law and is protective of ...

Rambo: First Blood (Film Only Review)
First Blood is unfortunately, one of those films whose legacy has been tainted by lesser sequels. In Rambo's case, First Blood parts 2 and 3 were so bad, it's a wonder the original film wasn't buried in a nuclear bomb-shelter and left to rot for ever more. Even the word 'Rambo' has become a by-word for muscle-bound, invincible freakiness and has entered the slang lexicon if not quite the Oxford dictionary. Ignoring ... ...bucket load. First Blood tells the tale of drifter John J. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) as he attempts to visit an old friend who he served with during the Vietnam War. After being informed of his friends demise ('It was cancer, thanks to that Agent Orange stuff' he is told somewhat bitterly by the friends wife), he attempts to seek refuge in a small mountain town, inappropriately called 'Hope'. The sheriff of the town (played with gusto by an excellent ...

...ludicrously excessive 2 sequels to First Blood whilst neatly forgeting the more intelligently crafted, ground breaking first movie...and yes, I did say both "intelligent" and "ground breaking". First Blood bravely paved the way for confessional Vietnam movies like "Platoon", "Born On The Fourth of July", "Full Metal Jacket" etc. which replaced the gung-ho, death and glory war movies of yesteryear and made damn sure cinema audiences would never take ... ...and quotable taglines like "The first casualty of war is innocence", but it is John Rambo who lost that innocence first on our screens and gave other more lauded directors, than the one we see here, the balls to make movies which followed suit in depicting some of the more heavyweight emotional issues thrown up by that war and war in general. Arguably "The Dirty Dozen" took the first shots at the glorification of war, but for me it was "First Blood" ...

Advantages: Rip roaring action picture with a strong message Disadvantages: Ultra-violent
...the series are unquestionably the first movies.
~ ~ When “Rambo – First Blood” was initially released in 1982, Stallone was riding on the crest of a wave in his acting career, due to the success of the “Rocky” movies, and was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
The idea for Rambo was intrinsically very simple. A highly decorated war hero returns from the Vietnam War, after giving his all for his country, only to ... ...My vague memory of the first time I viewed them (in the cinema) was that they were rip-roaring action movies, with lots of “crash, bang and wallop”.
So they were absolutely ideal to try out my new “toy”, and indeed, I wasn’t disappointed, and the living room fairly pulsated with noise, much to the annoyance of my long-suffering wife. (although my wee 11-year old daughter loved it!)
I rented out all three Rambo movies ...
