The general format was, what is quite common now, where it would be on twice a week, usually for around 15 – 20 minutes.
It was aimed squarely at kids and contained some iconic figures that even today are known to a new generation. Each episode revolved around adventures to go on, usually around the house, or more likely problems to be solved. It would always be resolved by the puppets or by a song.

Zippy Loud and opinionated and always right about everything, well in his mind.

Bungle A huge brown and very clumsy bear. Very unfrightening and a bit dozey.

Rod, Jane and Freddy They gave the music to the show with instruments and singing.
Occasional other character where Zippo, Zippys cousin, Dawn their next door neighbour and Geoffreys auntie who would pop in evry now and again.

The fact that the series ran for so long instantly tell you how popular it was and its clear appeal to children. The use of the large hand puppets added to the surreal atmosphere of the program. Throw into the mix the eclectic attitudes and opinions of the puppets and you have a winner. George and Zippy would fight like the 2 small children they where supposed to represent. George would usually win out over the loud and destructive Zippy.
The show would engage a childs imagination unlike today childrens TV which simply seems to preach and say, ‘Hay look what great cartoons we can make’. Yesteryears programs where made specifically for children and made purely to entertain and had no ulterior motives.
Watch these DVDs with the assurety that you child will thoroughly enjoy and grow from the experience of proper childrens TV from a, sadly, bygone age.
More fun for children with the famous Rainbow brand.
