...in his 1994 movie, The Quiz Show. Redford's earlier two movies as a director, Ordinary People and A River Runs Through It, were more about the internal struggles in an American family. The Quiz Show is his first attempt to tackling a realistic theme, about a scandal which happened during the 1950's. The movie as the name suggests is about the Quiz Show scandals which took place on American TV during the 1950's, with NBC being the prime culprit.

But for Van Doren, whose family was noted for academic achievement, the blow was long-lived, and he was never able to establish a career as an academic again. He did go on to author several books, including one of which I use in reading circles and teaching (The History of Knowledge).
What makes the story so remarkable is that most of the people participating were very intelligent. ...

...admiration of the player.
Quiz Show, based on the true story of the corruption of TV Game Show's in the 50's, is a delightful movie. So many films forget that the key aspect of drama is that it MUST have a good story. Now I don't know how much of this film is true, and personally I don't care - it is a film, not a documentary, but I enjoyed watching it.
With a splendid cast; including Ralph Fiennes, Paul Scofield and John Tuturro, Redford pulls ...

Quiz Show is a film of 1994, directed from Robert Redford, with John Turturro and Ralph Fiennes. It is a really history happened in America during the '50: practically the first large scandal that involved american Television through 21, an important NBC programme.
This large scandal made the public able to understand how much should be easy to maneuver a television program to to please the sponsor and to obtain the sest possible audience. Redford ... ...Turturro), a Jewish who suffers from a great inferiority complex, a pathetic and envious man, that becomes the star of 21. The American dream of the 'self made man' and a vindictive desire against the American Middle class drive him, beacause he feels rejected from the rntire world. Turturro is at his best, and his interpretation looks quite perfect. But let's talk a bit about the history: Herbie isn't a likeable person or an agreeable concurrent, ...

Advantages: The cast, good story Disadvantages: Hmmm
The 1950's quiz show is our target here and director Redford is spot on, creating a fantastic recreation of the events leading up to the investigation into quiz show fixing (and the subsequent effect).
The cast are excellent and very well suited to their roles (Fiennes especially) as well as working well together. Even more splendid is the production and the recreation of the sets is unnervingly accurate (When I saw this Channel 4 showed one of ...

Advantages: Will have you laughing for for days Disadvantages: Average quality on the bonus shows
...The DVD is one of the best value for money comedy DVD's you can buy today. It comes in a huge 4 disc collection, with a main feature of a 3 hour show in Newcastle. The main show is excellent, I cant remember laughing so much, and given that the show is all improvisation, you cant help but appreciate Nobles talent. Theres a huge range of special features, including shows performed in Scotland, Melbourne, Stoke, Birmingham, Australia and a Randomiser feature playing mixed up footage of a further 3 shows. The only thing about the large number of shows is that they are some times lacking in picture and sound quality, at least compared with the main feature. Theres more Ross Noble fun on the DVD with an interactive quiz which if you answer will reveal yet another show. The packaging is great and theres also some Humourous inlays with cartoons...

...stage, appear to be only 'bit parts'. It quickly becomes apparent that all is not well at The Office and David is fighting an uphill battle to keep his staff happy, indeed in work. As you watch the rest of the series, some classic encounters avail. Anybody who has ever been on a staff training day will love Episode 4. Add to this David's desperate hunt for the person who has put his head on an 'amusing' e-mail and the testosterone charged quiz night and you have a DVD packed with the most embarrassing and painful comedy show ever made. Brent makes Basil Fawlty look competent.
DVD 2 has a most revealing and funny documentary about the making of the series, some out-takes and some excellent deleted scenes. In terms of easter eggs, we can find the full version of the training video presented by Kick Start legend Peter Purves. So how do we...
