Although I really enjoyed “Looking for Eric” it’s certainly not without flaws. Cantona plays himself – or maybe the stoned Manchester postman’s version of himself – and while the brooding Frenchman needs hardly to act all to carry off the role, that French accent is sometimes quite difficult ... i've heard that Evet's reaction to Cantona was a true reaction, it was a fab piece of work by Loach.

Question about Looking For Eric (DVD)

According to an interview with Steve Evets (link bellow), he says that he didn't know Eric Cantona was to appear in the film because Ken Loach "doesn't give you a script". He says the first time he met Eric Cantona was in the first scene they share together. So if he is telling the truth it appears the reaction was genuine shock.
