Directed by: Sarah Harding (Clocking Off, Reckless), Charles McDougall (Wonderland, Cracker)
Rated: Not really suitable for people under 18 but if they are open minded I reckon let them decide
Plot:
When Queer as Folk was first shown on TV the critics went wild! Sex, Gay sex at that not to mention underage sex, Drugs, Drinking! In England! Cant happen! But it did and boy did it!
Queer as Folk is based on a group of people living it up in Gay Manchester and what happens as they live their lives to the fullest.
The writting of the series was absolutely exceptional so people soon switched their attentions from the naked gorgeous men to what they were actually discussing. Well most people did some critics still found it disgusting!
Stuart's life seemed to revolve around seducing people including 15 year old Nathan while his best mate Vince looked out for them and found himself unrequitedly in love with Stuart.
Although it does sound like all anyone did was have sex the show was actually very funny in part due to Vince's mum who was hilarious but also very gritty as Nathan struggled with coming to terms with his sexuality and coming out to his parents
I doubt TV will ever recover from the way Queer as Folk through open the cupboard but quite frankly thats something I'm very glad of!
My review:
Queer as Folk pretty much changed my life. I know that sounds really American but its true. I saw things in the series i'd never seen before and suddenly realised that even though life at times can be pretty screwy it can still be pretty darn fab! I visited Canal Street that year and the way they showed it in the series absolutely does it justice. The people, the loud music, the easy loving with sometimes painful consequences, its all there. The characters in Queer as Folk are so over the top and stereotypical at times if the writting wasnt so strong the show would run into danger of being just another gay stereotype but the writting is wonderful and instead what we get is a slice of theatre never shown on British TV before. If you havent seen the series yet you really really have to. Ok the naked bodies might offend but look beyond that and you will see the magic!

Good to see more detail in this one...your reviews are coming along nicely. When I started, I read lots of reviews to help me understand what made one review 'better' than the others. Hope this and my other comments have been useful to you...John
