Since reviewing the Platinum collection double cd i thought it would be appropriate to do the same with the Queen dvd.I dug it out of the archives, had a watch and still enjoyed it as much as i always did.Sometimes it pays to not overplay any music you have as it then tends to become a little boring. It must be a couple of years since i watched this so this is my view on what i consider to be an excellent dvd.
The design.......
This dvd case is designed in black with the now famous four band members in their traditional 'Bohemian Rhapsody' pose. The four faces bearing no hint of a smile highlighted against a dark background.Above is the title designed in silver text which stands out nicely on the black background. The back cover has the song listings in white text and again on a black background.
The contents within.......
The inside of the case holds a two disc set and these have the same design as the front cover. There is a very informative booklet within that lists the songs, album information, writers and so on.There are some great photos of the band in their early years(check out the hairstyles) and some more present day pictures.
The track listings cd 1......
1) Bohemian Rhapsody 2) Another One Bites The Dust 3) Killer Queen 4) Fat Bottomed Girls 5) Bicycle Race 6) Your My Best Friend 7) Dont Stop Me Now 8) Save Me 9) Crazy Little Thing Called Love 10) Somebody To Love 11) Spread Your Wings 12) Play The Game 13) Flash 14) Tie Your Mother Down 15) We Will Rock You 16) We Are The Champions
These are the original studio videos and i consider these to be the best.'Bohemian Rhapsody' with its what was considered groundbreaking special effects at the time and still a fantastic song and a still a favourite down the pub.Magnifico it still is.
You have the ever popular 'Dont Stop Me Now' which is a great foot tapper and fun to sing along with.Freddie showing his versatility on the piano and a set of teeth a shark would be proud of.
'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' with its leather clad Freddie and sexy girls was an unusual video by Queen standards but fun nonetheless.
The hilarious 'Flash' with its clips from the film never fail to make me chuckle because i think its god awful but that is Queen in a nutshell.Always open to the challenge of pushing the boundaries of the ridiculous.
'We Will Rock You' is of course a great song and has been performed but never bettered by other artists.Had many a hand clapping session to that song when intoxicated i must say.
'Another One Bites The Dust' has that classic bassline and is brilliant to play at full volume.Cant say i ever understood what Freddie was singing but hey ho.
They are all good songs and the videos are unique in their own way.
Song Listings cd 2..............
Listed as extra tracks this cd also features a photo gallery and a short documentary called 'Inside The Rhapsody'
1) Now Im Here(live) 2) Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy 3) Keep Yourself Alive 4) Liar 5) Love Of My Life 6) We Will Rock You(fast live version)
Im glad they put 'Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy' on this cd as it is one of my favourite songs of Queens.Apart from 'Love Of My Life' and 'We Will Rock You' im not too familiar with the other three and dont find them as entertaining to listen to.Personal preference of course.
The double cd has a apprx running time of 133 minutes and has been restored and remixed in 5.1 digital surround sound. The sound quality is excellent and brings out the best of the individual intruments. The cd's also include a comprehensive commentary prior to each song explaining how and why it was made. Produced and put together in 2002 by Simon Lupton & Rhys Thomas.
Summary...... I think this is an excellent cd to have in your collection if you are a fan of Queen.Very enjoyable songs and lots we all know.Good fun videos and suitable for all ages.I hope you enjoy it as much as i do.
Queen are......
Freddie Mercury (R.I.P) John Deacon Roger Taylor Brian May.
