I am a university student and needed something I could use to keep fit in my room on days when I wouldn't go to the gym. I've always loved going to Aerobics classes so I thought why not give a fitness DVD a go? All the fun without the hassle and (in some cases) the embarrassment! So I bought a few - Pump It Up, Dirty Dancing (the non-official workout) and unfortunately, since there was a deal going, one by Jade Goody - suffice to say I sold that off at the first opportunity!
Without a doubt Pump it Up has been the best one I've encountered for a number of reasons. First of all, like other workout DVDs, this one is very cheesy but what makes this alright for once is the fact that after you have picked up the moves you can turn off the commentary and play it just with the music. This is great as you can still see what is going on and really get into the music without the voices in the way! Also, if you have neighbours they won't start worrying about all the "encouraging" comments coming from your room!
The routines are led by the main host Deanne Berry and her seven assistants and it is performed on the same location as the video for Eric Prydz's 'Call On Me' - so yes, expect some very cheesy sexy moves. Naturally, the host does it the best but I found the background dancers particularly amusing, as some of them are trying so hard to be sexy and there is one single man (is that Eric?) who looks a bit out of place. Given that most people watching the DVD will be straight women, I'm not sure the sexy glances help - but I suppose they get you in the mood!
The workouts themselves are split up into neat sections comprising of: a warm up, three different dance workouts and a cooling down session. You can do any part you like and once you start getting fit and get used to it, the ambitious exerciser can run through the whole thing and it will give you a good hour's workout. The individual steps are incredibly easy to pick up as they are repetitive but fun as well. In the high energy section of the workout they do get very tough and I find myself wondering how the dancers stay looking so good while I'm collapsing all over the place. Nevertheless, the challenge does keep me motivated to try and get to the end!
The music featured in the DVD is quite funky and really gets your spirits up but, and this isn't any fault of the DVD, it does start getting repetitive on a few run throughs and you will also find yourself remembering the steps whenever you hear the songs outside of your exercising! Songs are generally club anthems, which aren't really my cup of tea but they do get your heart racing. There are well-known tracks such as DJ Sammy's Heaven, and Boogie Pimps' Somebody to Love.
Being on the small side, I haven't noticed a great weight loss difference because of this DVD but I'm sure that it has helped - I've never been able to go so long doing dance without realising I'm tired, and believe me it will definitely tire you out. Combined with other exercise and diet methods, this is a sure-fire way to success as long as you can cope with listening to the same songs over again each time you play it!
There are so many advantages of fitness DVDs - you can start and stop whenever you like at whatever point (though being able to do this may decrease your motivation!) Also, you can do it in your own time and space and not worry about not picking up the moves in time, which can get awkward if you are at an Aerobics class. Pump it Up is a great introduction to fitness DVDs as it is fun, easy and very good exercise.
Advantages: weight loss Disadvantages: having time to do this

this dvd features a warm up section, 2 different levels of dance workouts to get that energy level high this is when you start to feel the pain, then a bums an tums section to calm the heart rate and then last off a chill section which gets your heart rate to the normal speed and stretches the muscles removing any lactic acid build up so the next morning you are not aching! which is always a good thing:)

Advantages: a good workout for every part of you Disadvantages: they expect you to already know the routines
I am not a dance music fan but I wanted some form of exercise that was a) cheap b) fun c) not too hard and d) varied. Well 3 out of 4 isn't bad! It is cheap as you can do it in the privacy of your own home. It is also fun, especially when you do with a friend (or drag your boyfriend along!). It is varied as there are 4 sections with many different dance moves. However, it is hard. The dancers obviously have a level of fitness that I can only dream ... ...Beery, the instructor, also explains the routines as she is actually doing them making it quite hard to follow. I ended up tying myself in the knots the first time I tried it. But I persisted and now that I know the routines, it so much more fun! A trick I learned was to improvise when things get a little too hard! It is also toning me up and making me feel much fitter. I can feel it when I do other exercise - for example, when I surf, my arms and ...

Advantages: being able to choose relevant sections instead of doing the whole dvd. Disadvantages: you almost dont want to start once you know what you're letter yourself into
...always do. Then theres the pump it up section which is the main part, lots of twists and knee raises intwined with sexy moves to. You can just leave it there and skip to the cool down which gives some nice stretches and breathing activities or you can go to the High energy section, which is much more fast paced but not impossible, its best to build up to this. Theres also a bums and tums section which i quite often do on its own if i dont have 40 ...

Advantages: Good work out best out of about 10 DVDS Disadvantages: No intro, Thats The way, 10 seconds and change
This DVD is a great DVD, I have used many fitness DVD`s and the first 10 miniutes was so quick and fun it felt nothing like a work out.
The DVD is split into diffrent sections.
- The Warm Up - You do the basic dance moves and just streatch out get your heart rate up ect... this last 10 miniutes and may I point out now It is best to watch the DVD through first the moves are not tought to you as other reviewers have pointed out.
- The next section ... ...Salsa ect... this section lasts about 20 miniutes.
- Then we go onto the Bums & Tums and it is egsactly what it says a range of exersizes that are targeted at your Tummy && Bum again lasting about 20 miniutes.
- Then the cool down lasting 10 miniutes just a cool down really streching off a few more little exersizes.
Over all the a DVD is a great work out but the exersizes change every 10 seconds so just when you realise what to do she changes.

Advantages: good workout, good tunes Disadvantages: bit fast for complete beginners
I thought that this workout dvd was brill! Hi energy, it takes a couple of goes to get it right if you lack a bit of coordination. If you want a good thorough workout with dancy tunes this is the one to buy! I absolutely loved it, the bloke and the chicks are well fit!! and i soon noticed results on my body. As with all workouts you have to drink plenty of water 'cause this gets you right sweating! ergh! The bums and tums section was really good, ... ...2 children.
All i would say about this dvd is if you haven't had much excerise don't overdo it at first, take your time and build it up. It really is fun and sexy and makes you want to strip to your undies, just make sure you pull the blinds down or shut the curtains because you might get an audience outside!! oh and get yourself an exercise mat for the tums and bums section because hard floor will hurt your back. ...

Advantages: Great music, Reasonable workout Disadvantages: Hard to do many of the moves, Tiring, Annoying people who don't break a sweat
I brought this DVD after buying the first edition ‘Pumpitup, The ultimatedanceworkout’ as I very much enjoyed the first DVD, and thought, well I want a change, a change of music and moves. I would have to say I was thoroughly disappointed when I played the DVD through first time. But after a while, I got used to the techniques, although you can never get used to the annoying clothes the dancers are wearing, and the fact that they never break a sweat while your there mopping it off your forehead!
The new DVD ‘Pumpitup, burn it. Lose it.’ Features a workout split into 6 sections, which is set to an excellent soundtrack of 15 club hits.

The sections consist of:

Advantages: Sexy & encouraging instructor! Extended 15 minute Bums & Tums section, music is more enjoyable than the 1st Disadvantages: Only one 30 minute dance section which is not as challenging as expected
A few months ago I bought 'PumpItUp! The UltimateDanceWorkout'. I bought it mainly out of curiosity as I was almost certain it'd be just another Ministry of Sound cash in - but after discovering it was the most original and fun workout DVD I'd come across I couldn't wait (a bit weird, I know!) the arrival of the follow up 'PumpItUp! Beach Body - The Ultimate Summer Workout', which I promptly received for my birthday.
PUMPITUP BEACH BODY
Most people should still remember the sexually charged aerobic workout in Eric Prydz's 2004 'Call On Me' video. PumpItUp 'The UltimateDanceWorkout' (from now on called PumpItUp 1) was inspired by that video, and this being the follow-up DVD shares many of the same attributes. The workout will probably appeal more to a youth audience, with a preference for commercial dance music ...
Advantages: good exercise, good music Disadvantages: complicated dance moves!

PumpitUp Dancemix - the ultimatedanceworkout
Price £14.99 from woolworths, widely available at many other retailers and online for around the same price.
This is the latest workout dvd from ministry of sound. Having already mastered the original Pumpitup and Pumpitup - hi-energy, i decided to update my home workout collection after xmas and Pumpitup - dancemix was the obvious choice.
The front cover is inkeeping with previous ministry of sound dvd's, its bright, modern, pink and contains a picture of the three girls who do the workout (who by the way are perfect and kept my boyfriend intrested!!).
The back cover contains some quotes about the dvd, a brief summary and the track list.
The dvd has six sections and is presented and choreographed by Gareth Walker. He is a little irritating but i ...
