In the opening moments of the 2006 hit series Prison Break, successful Chicago structural engineer Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller, in a star-making role) enters a bank and fires a handgun into the air. Within moments he's arrested, then tried, convicted, and sentenced to five years at Fox River State Penitentiary.

The prisoner simply grins, though, because this is just the beginning of his elaborate plan. His brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), has been caught up in a government conspiracy and sits on death row at Fox River for a murder he did not commit.

While the brothers' lawyers, Veronica (Robin Tunney) and Nick Savrinn (Frank Grillo), fight to expose the conspiracy, Michael takes it upon himself to break his brother out, using blueprints of the prison that have been concealed in the design of his amazing upper-body tattoo (which requires four hours of work by the makeup artists).

Using both the blueprint and his previous research into the backgrounds of various inmates, Michael enlists the aid of his cellmate, Sucre (Amaury Nolasco); the old con Westmoreland (Muse Watson), who just might be infamous robber D. B. Cooper; the Italian mobster Abruzzi (Peter Stormare); an Iraq veteran, C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar); a prison snitch, Tweener (Lane Garrison); a mental patient, Haywire (Silas Weir Mitchell); and an unrepentant child killer, T-Bag (the scene-stealing Robert Knepper), who worms his way into the crew.

Michael isn't above manipulating prison staff, either: He works his charms on prison doctor Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) -- who also happens to be the daughter of the governor -- and even becomes friendly with Warden Henry Pope (Stacy Keach), just to get access to his office.

A must for all very good drama
