Advantages: quick loading and unloading, solid and safe mould, generous padding Disadvantages: much to vertical on a back seat slope, cumbersome, no adjustable back
personal opinion and please don't take it for anything else. The only relevance it has to the review is that this seat has beenn indeed obtained second-hand.
Primo Viaggio is a first stage rear facing car seat which will theoretically serve a child till about 10-13 kg (1 year old) but for most people will probably be used up to about 6 months.
The distinguishing feature of this seat is the fact that it's a 'click-in' one, which means that you have a base that can stay permanently in the car and a seat proper that can be very easily taken out and put in without a need to do much threading of the webbing.
The seat can be also clipped onto the relevant Mamas and Papas chassis to become a part of a travel system. The idea of a travel system never appealed to me at all, I think babies should spend as little time as possible within ...
Advantages: Safe, stylish, in-car base Disadvantages: Weighty, in-car base, little bit small
The Primo Viaggio car seat is a rear facing group 0+ car seat meaning it is suitable for babies from birth to 13kg (or till they are about 12-15 months). I bought mine as part of a travel system but to buy separately they are approximately £90 from various retailers as well as Mamas and Papas stores obviously.
The seat itself is well padded as are the deep sides. As well as this padding the Primo Viaggio comes with a head hugger and extra optional chest and buckle pads. If you buy this as part of the Mamas and Papas Freestyler Completo Travel System you also get a Completo Comfort Pad which you can use as even more comfy padding in the Primo Viaggio. I did find that when my son was newborn that there seemed to be too much padding if you used the chest pads too ? he just seemed swamped by them, but this is easily remedied by taking ...
Advantages: Matches travel systems Disadvantages: Heavy, extremely difficult to move handle, straps and get in and out of the car.
the base without tugging and jerking the seat which is not what you need with a young sleeping baby inside. Also the car seat doesn't look comfortable for babies. It's not very padded and seems far too upright for a new born baby. Even now my baby is 4 months old when he falls asleep in the car is head flops forward onto his chest which looks really uncomfortable for him, (and the seat is definately suitable for my car and is installed properly)
Positives about the seat are hard to find. It feels secure and safe but then all car seats have to meet set safety standards so this isn't a particularly special selling point. The cover is easily removable and machine washable which i suppose is good. Overall I would be suprised if the designers of the Mamas and Papas Primo Viaggio car seat have actually ever had children and had to use the car seat ...
