Considering this movie is essentially two hours in which absolutely nothing really happens, I enjoyed this movie. This is very surprising for someone like me - normally I feel like I have wasted my time after watching a movie like this, but I think they did an excellent job on this film.
First of all, the scenery is exactly like it should have been. The set was perfect in every way for me. All of the houses, the halls, the clothing, everything about it is exactly how I would have imagined it to be, and that definitley helped with the experience. I also think they did a good job at casting with this. Mr. Darcy is spot on, and all of the daughters have exactly the kind of innocent excitement that I would have imagined from the books, and Bingley is immediatley likeable.
It is unusual for me to like a movie like this because, well, nothing really happens. The plot line is very simple, it's basically about the Bennet daughters and their quests to find husbands. It sounds terribly dull and the sort of movie that I would lose interest in within the space of about ten minutes, but I really enjoyed watching this. The characters are fantastic and portrayed excellently, the acting is all brilliant and you really do feel emotions for the characters. Even though I've read the book and therefore know the outcomes, I still found myself willing certain characters on and feeling the same disappointment that Elizabeth does with the multiple problems that occur for her.
I don't want to make this go on for too long as I don't like giving away too much of the plot to people, as I don't like it when people already know exactly what to expect and what scenes to look out for. Everything about this movie was perfect, really. I think it did an excellent job at capturing lifestyles and attitudes of the time - to the extent that it kindof made me wish that I'd been living back in those days! This is definitley one I'd recommend, even if you normally find films like this quite dull I'd still suggest giving it a go as normally I would be inclined to agree with you and go out of my way to avoid films like this - but this one is definitley worth watching.

I have to confess that my heart belongs to the 1995 BBC miniseries version of Pride and Prejudice, but I wasn't totally disappointed with this film adaptation. I could see what points the director wanted to highlight, and - reading your review - I agree with your comments about the mood/feeling/general atmosphere created by this particular film.

I too loved this film, and I felt that Jane Austen would have Loved this enaction of her book as well! . . . I wasn't put off in advance by any preconception of any of the actors, although I was disappointed with the player who played the very short Mr Collins, when anyone who knew the original would have expected him to be very tall . . .♥ jes ♥

Advantages: VERY TRUE TO JANE AUSTEN'S ORIGINAL - Natural and Unpretentious - Glorious Scenery and very "Down-to-Earth" Disadvantages: It stopped before Jane Austen stopped, and I wanted MORE!
Advantages: Alive with a beating pulse, music, naturalistic settings, excellent portrayals, electric chemistry between leads. Disadvantages: A superfluous ending scene (US version only?); otherwise nil.
