A wonderful adaptation of the famous novel by Jane Austen for the screen. The film has been expertly directed and produced with a marvelous soundtrack to accompany it. Quality actors abound in this production, the lead character- Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth and does a brilliant job in portraying the character.Donald Sutherland plays her father and with his usual subtle charm. All actors give an accurate and professional portrayal of the characters, rendering the film a most enjoyable and successful one. The production and direction is superb- using awe-inspiring photography in parts- that well-known picture of Elizabeth standing on one of the Pennine peaks, accompanied by by that recognizable theme music in full flow. A beautiful piece of filming. This soundtrack is available on CD and has been in the Classical charts for long periods of time. Flowing and dramatic, it really does make the film one of even more quality and emotion. The story's characters and themes are interpreted well- namely the relationship between Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy. The strength of the actors and the direction techniques- such as used in the aforementioned characters' dance together where all other dancers seemed to disappear, allow their feelings and relationships to be accurately conveyed. The actors give, not a stilted, false performance like sometimes given by televisions series of lesser quality, but one of naturalness and authenticity. They speak and act as a person would surely do at that time, not with the rigidity that is usually associated with period drama, and this allows one to embrace the film more easily. However, it must be said that they do not always have the warmth and depth which are found in the television series. In my opinion, this is a high quality production, due to the combination of brilliant scoring, acting and direction. A film for all the family to watch and enjoy.

Advantages: VERY TRUE TO JANE AUSTEN'S ORIGINAL - Natural and Unpretentious - Glorious Scenery and very "Down-to-Earth" Disadvantages: It stopped before Jane Austen stopped, and I wanted MORE!
Advantages: Alive with a beating pulse, music, naturalistic settings, excellent portrayals, electric chemistry between leads. Disadvantages: A superfluous ending scene (US version only?); otherwise nil.
