I admit right now that I have never seen any other adaptation of the book nor read the book itself but after watching the film I am now going to get the book as even though it is the kind of book you read in high school I am very interested to see if it is like this film which many people say it is.
I wasn't to keen to see this film but decided to go to see it with my mum at the cinema and was really shocked. The film was just as interesting from start to finish and didn't at any point drag or get confusing. So I requested the DVD as a late Christmas present and got it the day it came out.
The characters I think were very cleverly chosen and actually look like sisters which is a good start. Even if the two youngest sisters Kitty and Lydia annoyed me at times with there constant laughing but maybe that's the point. I trust me after seeing the film you will love your mother for the way she is and thank her everyday for not being like Mrs. Bennet!!
I don't want to give the story for those who have not seen the film and like me have not red the book but it's a wonderful story and after watching it was tickled by how much like Bridget Jones' diary it was I believe someone had a little inspiration when writing her book and may I add Jane Austen's' came first!
Anyway all the characters work well in this must see movie which I would recommend to anyone and to get your guy to watch it with you well Keira knightly is in it.
Features include : the politics of dating the stately homes of pride and prejudice the bennets the life and times of Jane Austen on set diaries Audio commentary galleries of the 19th century family tree alternate US ending ( which i havn't seen yet!)
I havn't tried any of these features yet so i can't comment.

Advantages: VERY TRUE TO JANE AUSTEN'S ORIGINAL - Natural and Unpretentious - Glorious Scenery and very "Down-to-Earth" Disadvantages: It stopped before Jane Austen stopped, and I wanted MORE!
Advantages: Alive with a beating pulse, music, naturalistic settings, excellent portrayals, electric chemistry between leads. Disadvantages: A superfluous ending scene (US version only?); otherwise nil.
