Major "Dutch" Schaefer, leader of an elite Spec Ops force, is called to duty by General Phillips and the very suspicious Dillon to rescue a bunch of government officials, who have been shot down in enemy territory in Latin America. As soon as they arrive in the jungle something is watching their every move from the trees, being hunted. They get the feeling that things arent right. The first rescue team is found disembowelled and skinned, hanging in what is left of their chopper, being eaten by vultures. Suspicion spreads through the squad of elite special forces. They tackle the Rebels and in no less than five minutes, all seven of them completely obliterate a rebel guerrilla camp. The hostages all murdered except one, Anna, a young girl who was being held by the rebels. The elite team take a journey through one valley to the nearest rendezvous point and fly back home. As simple as it sounds, little do they know they are being hunted by an extra-terrestrial which has intentions of collecting their skulls as trophies, skinning their bodies and brutally destroying the "elite" force one by one. The predator makes short work of its prey, using its hightech arsenal of weaponry and utilities it hunts them through the jungle, watching their every move with its infra-red vision. Using its wrist - blades, Shoulder canon, medic-comp and its superb camouflage it rises above all as a supreme warrior... or has it? Major Dutch proves to the huge 7'2" Predator that its met its match, with a duel at the end of the film, being the last survivor of the elite squad of US troops. The final act is no doubt the strongest and can even be viewed as a separate movie altogether. The lush, steamy jungle scrapped from the first two acts and completely turns it around into a strikingly open, baroque, supernatural, gloomy landscape. The awesome battle starts with weapon vs weapon and resorting to hand to hand combat inevitably, the predator battles worthy opponents but doesnt go "over-kill" and jus blow the poor guy up when hes un-armed, fairly he fights Dutch man to Predator, scrapping until Dutch traps the Predator and fatally wounds it. The Predators know seals its fate by confirming the selfdestruct sequence in his arsenal of weaponry and refuses Dutch the honor of defeating the Predator. The tension and testosterone in the last fight scene is enough to keep anybody on the edge of their seat!!!
This film made me a fan of the Predator films, games, collectables ever since i saw it, its definately a landmark in Arnold Schwarzneggers career.
I recommend this film to any sci-fi or action film fanatic, it scores high in my books!!!!!!
My favourite scene has to be the one which made the minigun famous. This scene involves "Mac" unleashing a minigun onto the predator, which is usually mounted onto the side of a helicopter in reality firing around 150 rounds per second.... thats alot of fire power :D Mac unleashes the minigun he adopted after he finds his best friend Blane brutally murdered with a hole clean through his torso by the Predator, cutting down the jungle better than a flymo!! Great fun!
