...face-vaginas?
The Predator has been depicted as an humanoid extraterrestrial, who possess advanced technology to aid him in killing his prey. The species follow a code in which they refuse to kill unarmed, ill or pregnant prey (this was hinted at in the 1987 film, when an unarmed Anna (Elpidia Carrillo) was never attacked; and when the Predator removed his armour to face Dutch in a fair fight).
That's pretty much all you're ... ...video games.
Predator 2, much like the original, is full of action and violence, and it makes for decent entertainment that we don't bother to think about the mysterious outer space warrior until after the credits have rolled. Bodies get skinned, heads get cut off, and bullets seemingly fly every which way. It's a solid action flick. Nothing incredibly spectacular; nothing incredibly bad, either.

That's pretty much all you're gonna learn about the species from the movies. The truth is: You're not really going to know much more about Yautjas unless you read the comic books or play the video games.

It's biggest criticism is that it is inferior in most ways to the film that came before it. Primarily, for the following two reasons:
1. The Change of Environment
He(?), the Predator, is right in the middle of an urban warfare in Los Angeles this time around, between the police department and a bunch of Haitian drug dealers. The city is in a run down state of criminal activity: Most buildings are demolished, and those that are standing are covered in graffiti. And although I thought this urban environment generally looked quite appealing in most places, one has to admit that it is still a step down from the beautiful depths of the Central America's jungles.
2. The Cast/Characters
Erm, Danny Glover replacing Arnold Schwarzenegger? Surely not. Actually, he's not as bad as one would first think. I thought he held his own quite well (and I'm hardly his biggest fan); fan favourite Gary Busey is there, too, as his useful menacing self. The other characters, however, are far from as influential on the story as Glover: In the first movie we had Hawkins, Dillon, Mack, Billy etc.; here, Bill Paxton's character Lambert is sadly underused, as is Leona (Maria Conchita Alonso). Disappointing, really.
What may just pip original comparisons is Predator 2's ending. I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen it already, but I will say that the most unlikely of battles does turn out to be pretty relentless (make sure you watch out for the skull of familiar species hanging on the Predator's wall. Wink, wink).
Overall, Predator 2 is a mixed bag. On its own, it's an entertaining action film that doesn't take itself too seriously. Though, with the seemingly unavoidable comparisons with the original, it is more likely to disappoint avid fans of Schwarzenegger and his elite commandos' past adventures in the jungles of Palenque, Mexico.

Predator was a great movie and one which I have watched a number of times since it was released. Predator 2 had a lot to live up to and when it was announced that the original's main star was not to be in the movie I was somewhat suspicious that it would be yet another inferior sequel cash-in. Out went Arnold Schwarzennegar...in came Danny Glover as the Predator movie switched from its jungle location to the mean streets of L.A. It opens as it means ... ...happened to that Aliens Vs Predator movie as well? I was looking forward to that...despite thinking it would probably be a really bad movie. On the action front it serves you well. It is perhaps more graphically violent and gory than the original but then thats what sells action movies half the time so sit back and enjoy the voyeurism I say. There are few lulls here, although some glaring plot holes which are somewhat difficult to gloss over. Why ...

Advantages: Danny Glover's heroic cop. Good support. Intriguing villain. Good effects & music. Disadvantages: Comparisons to the original
...earlier movies and the original Predator was one of his finest. Inevitably, a sequel was penned, but, for whatever reason, he chose not to become involved. So, Danny Glover plays the hero in this impressive sci-fi sequel.
Predator 2 shifts the setting of the original from the jungles of South America to the streets of Los Angeles in the near future. A major war has been brewing for some time between rival drug gangs - the Columbians and the Jamaicans. ... ...this one, apart from the Predator itself. The mythology around this alien species is developed further here and we get to see the Predator in a brand new environment. The one thing that I did notice was the rivalry between Harrigan and the Predator - this gets increasingly personal as it becomes apparent that the alien is picking off members of Harrigan's team one-by-one (much like it picked on Schwarzenegger's team of soldiers in the original).

Advantages: Predator - an alien who just loves killing humans Disadvantages: A few but nothing to worry about
Predator 2 is the sequel to the excellent Predator starring big Arnie but this time does not star big Arnie which is maybe a good thing, or maybe not. Arnie brings a certain charisma to these types of roles which not alot of actors have.
However, that is not to say that the star in this film - Danny Glover did not do a pretty good job.
Predator 2 has another Predator in it but that's about all you can say in comparison to the original film. This ... ...as well as the actual Predator itself, which could lead to all sorts of spin-offs movie-wise but hasn't so far. But action it also has - in buckets, great big buckets!
Much of the action is gratuitous and unrealistic and although you could say it takes away from the film, it doesn't really - Predator 2 is a shoot 'em up type of film, probably more suited to the video charts than the cinema goers. It doesn't have the originality or the tension of ...

Advantages: Good acting and some gory effects Disadvantages: Plot is limited and illogical
...hold the audience.
In Predator 2, we find Danny Glover (of Lethal Weapon) playing Mike Harringan investigating mysterious forces that are killing drung dealers.
The movie attempts to instill a little thought into the concept of Alien Predators, to keep the viewer intrigued with all the little plots and sub-plots.
Predator 2 is very gory in parts, and some of the scenes where there are drug dealers hanging from the ceiling are very gory indeed. ... ...is flawed as an Alien Predator would go for the hardest target to get full stimulation, to me this would be something like the army.
I found the movie to be very slow paced, with a few 'adrenalin' pumping parts thrown in to wake you up. The plot was not complex enough to be a true detective type movie, and does not possess enough action to be classed an action movie. Lovers of both genres will be disappointed.
With a little more thought and logic ...

What lets this dvd set down is predator2. The story;
The predator comes back to haunt Los Angeles. Danny Glover stars as Lt. Hannigan who realises the drug lords he is fighting are being killed off in a very brutal fashion. Harrigan sets off to kill the alien before it strikes again.
This film is watchable but i wouldnt want to see it again. It seems the directors have concentrated too much on making the film as scary and as gory as possible but have lacked imagination on the story. The acting is good but the story really lets it down. ...
Advantages: two DVD's of killing and blood Disadvantages: bit expensive but its ok
With the release of Alien Vs predator and the two disk special edition Predator2DVD's comes the collector's edition box set of predator 1 and 2!!
Predator is a pure killing machine that kills for fun, an alien who sees in infra red vision who can spot its pray by seeking body heat and has a brilliant sense of seeking hostile weaponry. A true predator to be scared of!
The two DVD collectors edition contains both films with bonus disks packed full of extras.

Advantages: Gives the fans what the want Disadvantages: Not as original or as inspired as the first
harming an innocent. There are several excellent scenes, one in a slaughter house and another on a train and the gore is still kept at a high level for those that enjoy the sight of blood. The supporting cast are colourful and entertaining.
For me the major dissapointment of the film was the Predator himself. At time he seems unstoppable, then suddenly he spends the last 15 minutes of the film running away. This seemed out of character for a successful hunter who is supposed to face any challenge head on - the Predator in the first film was more than a match for Arnie and yet this one has huge trouble with Danny Glover!
The DVD extras are ok, but I think they are more something special for fans who were going to buy the DVD anyway, rather than directly affecting a purchase. They include:
