Loosely inspired by the a Disney theme-park ride, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL is a swashbuckling high-seas tale directed by Gore Verbinski. When camp...
more...Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), an eccentric rogue, arrives at Port Royal, he barely avoids going down with his ship. Soon enough, he's in the market for a new one, but not before he saves the life of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the beautiful daughter of the governor (Jonathan Pryce). This act of bravery sets into motion a sweeping adventure involving Elizabeth's childhood friend, blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom); a mysterious medallion; and a legendary pirate ship, the Black Pearl. The Pearl's mottled Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) wants Elizabeth's doubloon necklace, and when she's kidnapped by the ol' salty dog and his crew, Sparrow and young Will must rescue her and find out the truth behind the ship's curse. Verbinski's PIRATES is a welcome throwback to Hollywood offerings of yesteryear, filled with rope-swinging heroes, crusty villains, treasure hoards, swift swordplay, and even wittier wordplay. Screenwriters Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott have crafted one of the most clever action-movie scripts in many moons, and this gives the filmmakers and cast (especially Depp) plenty of room to cut loose. Although the skeletal pirates may be a bit frightening for small children, there's lots of humour to temper the scary moments, making PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL a nearly flawless fun film.

Pirates of the Carribbean is a great movie and a fabulous movie in HD. Its a great action packed family movie for all ages.

Whats the story about?
The story starts as Governer Swan (Johnathon Pryce) and his daughter Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) are traveling the seas. Upon traveling that encounter a survivor of a shipwreck, young William Turner (Orlando Bloom). Eight years later there is a ceremony for the promotion of Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport). Elizabeth is at the ceremony wearing a corset which makes it hard for her to breath. At the same time Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) arrives to Port Royal in search of a ship to commandeer. When Elizabeth is alone with Norrington he asks for her hand in marriage, but with Elizabeth unable to breath faints and drops into the sea. So Jack Sparrow rescues her and instead of Norrington rewarding him wants to hang Sparrow because he is identified as a pirate. So jack uses Elizabeth as a hostage and tries to make a run for it. On the run he hides in a blacksmith's shop which is run by William so him and Jack have a swordfight which leads to Sparrows victory but then is struck in the head with a bottles in passes out. With Jack in prison and Elizabeth safe it would seem that everything will be fine now but however the Black Pearl a pirate ship run by Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) approaches Port Royal in search of a gold coin. Elizabeth is the one with the coin which eight years ago used to belong to William until she took it. So the pirates of the Black Pearl kidnap Elizabeth. With Elizabeth taken by the pirates William wants to rescue her and he asks Jack for help since he's firmiliar with the Black Pearl. So Jack and William gather a crew and begin their hunt for the Black Pearl to rescue Elizabeth.

How was the movie?
The movie was very enjoyable. The plotline was great, stories like this gets an audience more interested in pirate ages. Not a lot of movies have attempted to create a movie based on pireates and Disney have gone at a high risk try to make one and they succeded by a large margin.

How was the casting?
The casting was phenomenal!!! every actor does a great job in creating their character. Johnny Depp does a great job playing Jack Sparrow he really turns him into an unexpected character. Very stupid and acting drunk most of the time it great!!. Its no shock that he was nominated for a Academy Award for this role. Orlando Bloom also does a briliant job playing his character which is no suprise after seeing his in all the Lord Of The Ring movies. He does a good job in slowly building up his character from a blacksmith into a pirate over the movie. Keira Knightly makes a great Elizabeth the damzel in distress but with some strength of her own. Geoffery Rush also did a brilliant job with playing Captain Barbossa. This person should have recieved a nomination for his character.

Hows the movie on blu-ray?
The movie looks great in HD!!!!. Their a lot of quality and detail shown in the picture and with 5.1 surround sound is brilliant. There is no grain or any problem with the picture.

Hows the special features?
The special features where slightyly dissapointing. Even though they put all of the Lost Disc boxset onto both Blu-ray discs the features were all in standard definiton. I was very unimpressed with this as most of the blu-ray movie have HD features. Watching standard definiton after seeing HD can put you off watching the features at all. However like i said all the Lost Disc boxset is included in this movie which rounds up to 18 hours in total of special features.

Is this a movie to buy?
Most deffinately!! there is no point in collecting Blu-Ray movies if you do not own this movie. This is a deffinate must buy for anyone that owns a Blu-Ray player
