Right well this is an attempt to rectify the awful job I did on this review originally. I am the first to admit it was awful and at best just slightly cringe worthy!!
So here we go...
INTRODUCTION.
Pirates of the Caribbean was released in the cinema in 2003, and released on DVD in 2004. It was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (Pearl Harbour) and directed by Gore Verbinski (The Ring).
THE PLOT.
The films begins with the sight of a large sailing boat emerging from the mist, standing on the bow is a small girl, Elizabeth, singing a song associated with pirates. Then one of the crew see's a young boy (Will Turner played as an adult by Orlando Bloom) floating on a raft, he brought aboard and the little girl is told to look after him. While doing so she discovers a pendant around his neck, she realises that it has the sign of the pirates on it so she hides it, in the hope of stopping the boy from being discovered as a pirate. (the pendant we discover is a huge part of the story line)
The film them moves
to the "pressent day" where the little girl is grown up (Played brilliently by Keira Knightley) and being strapped tightly in to a dress with a corset, this leads to a rather funny scene where she faints and falls off a wall in to the sea!
Then we see Captain Jack Sparrow for the first time (played, in my opinion superbly, by Johnny Depp). Having had his ship stolen and being left stranded on a desert island, he finally makes it back to dry land, where he hopes to "aquire" a new ship so he can go after his original ship.
Lucily for Elizabeth he shows up just at the right moment and is there to rescue her after her fall into the sea. He ends up being arrested for pirating and manages to escape briefly, during which he has a rather eventful sword fight with Will Turner, he ends up in the cells. This is where he is when the pirates, headed by Captain Barbossa, (Geoffrey Rush) and yes they are the same one's that stole Captain Jacks ship and dumped him on a dessert island, arrive having been "called" by the pendant.
They end up kidnapping Elizabeth and the rest of the film is about the attempts of Will Turner and Captain Jack to get back Elizabeth and the Black Pearl (which incidently is the ship that was stolen from Jack!).
MY OPINION
There are a few twists and turns in this film, mostly from Captain Jack, you can't tell from one moment to the next if he is actually on Will's side of whether he is actually trying to get him and Elizabeth killed.
I felt that the special effects were really good and incredibally clever. I don't really know enough about how they did it so wont even attempt to go there.
I felt that all the charactors and ofcourse the actors playing them worked well together and made this a wonderfully funny and enjoyable film to watch.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The DVD consists of 2 disks, with the following features, now to be terribly honest I don't tend to bother with the special features, but I wil give you an out line of what you get.
DISK ONE.
The Movie, always good to have!! and the audio commentry. I haven't listened to the commentry as to be honest it doesn't interest me.
DISK TWO.
EPIC AT SEA: Again I haven't watched this but it is basically a documentry about the making of the film ect.
DIARIES: Haven't watched this either, and am not really 100% sure what it is? But I get the impression it is the diaries of the cast and crew.
FLY ON THE SET: This is a behind the scenes documentry, it shows how scenes are set up ect, only watched about 2 minutes of this as I really didn't find it interesting.
BLOOPER REEL: Now this was one of the only features I was looking forward to!! I watched it 2-3 times and yes it is funny, but there could have been more.
PIRATES IN THE PARK: Haven't watched it, sorry!
BELOW DECK: Haven't watched it, had really got bores of the special features by now.
19 DELETED SCENES: I watched this and was really surprised that they didn't just do as most DVD's I have bought do, and put them back in the film as they were intended to be. Don't really see the point of this.
MOODLIGHT SERENADE: Scene progression: Title speaks for itself really!
DVD ROM: Enhanced Computer Features: I haven't got around to looking at these yet, but when I do I will update the revieew once again!
