I was working in the hotels, on Greek Islands, as entertainer. Most of the children at the Mini-Club fancied the game we called "Pirate Jack". The game was so popular, that during it, all adults were leaving the hotel outside, leaving their children to an empty hotel and me. I particularly remember this boy from Liverpool who was so into it, that, until recent, he believed he was getting a card from "Pirate Jack". When he was leaving back to England, little fellow gave me special request in written. That was a special task for me. To post every Jack’s card to him. And I did, until couple years ago, when the busy course took over my life. Even today, if I find a card with pirates as the motive, I think how he would love to have this. But, since that period, a years past by and I assume, the children I’m talking about, do not believe in Pirate Jack* no more.
Legendary pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is left to die on an uninhabited island when his ship, The Black Pearl, is stolen by Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). He survives
months on a deserted island without food or water, finding smuggler's rum burred in the ground instead. Attacking Port Royal, Barbossa and his men destroy the town, kidnapping the Governor’s daughter Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley- BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM). They need to return the gold medallion she is wearing and spill her blood on top of the hidden treasure, in order to remove the evil curse cast on the evil pirates from Black Pearl. Elizabeth’s childhood friend, the blacksmith Will Turner, joins Sparrow to find the fastest ship in the British fleet-Interceptor and rescue Elisabeth. Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s promised to Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport). But only Jack knows that Captain Barbossa and his crew are under a curse that makes them "living dead" under the moonlight. Under the moonlight the undead transform into a living skeletons. The audience here is taken on a roller coaster adventure, catching the glimpses of shadowy Black Pearl, pretty Jack [the Sparrow I mean], while the significance of golden medallion is slowly getting revealed, in one typical Disney production style plot.
"Pirates of the CARIBBEAN, the Curse of the Black Pearl" is a fantastic story for adults and children. I was amused! It’s not often an actor makes a decision to create a character with bizarre necessary involved. A character played by Johnny Depp, the Johnny Depp, with British accent. Johnny Depp gets deep into this rarefied pool of fearless character to triumphs with it! You simply can’t take your eyes off him. Everyone knows that Johnny Depp is one of Hollywood’s most talented actors. He does big-budget stuff, bringing something quirky and untraditional to almost every role character he played. Check "Sleepy Hollow", "From Hell" and you’ll see what I mean. His performance as the egocentrically mysterious Jack Sparrow is definitely one of the most entertaining roles of Depp in the past several years. It is hard to play a character of Jack Sparrow without showing off. Depp is fully engaged in playing this exaggerated cliché character, the archetypal pirate. Sparrow flits around throwing his fingers in the air magically. Not all actors can do such cliched roles originally. It is as well apparent that other crewmates are carefully chosen. It is wonderfully charming when Turner questions Sparrow’s mannerisms by mimicking him. Orlando Bloom is all right here; completely different from the role he played in "Lords of the Ring". Keira Knightly is here enough likeable, in the traditions of the seductive captivity maiden in distress. Jack Devenport and Geoffrey Rush coping fantastically together. Devenport with all that boyish charm…such a perfect choice for Norrington’s part.
It is very hard to make an original pirate movie. Well, get ready to add a glorious new score to the pirate cinematography book-line. Because "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" is (in spite of all) one dizzyingly entertaining big budget adventures film. Let’s mentioned the fact that "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN" is a pattern in a Disney theme production. This is not only a terrific, fun movie, with all usual details that a pirate movie needs; this is a movie with the seductively mean Johnny Depp [with British accent]. A script is a fresh story full of flair, colorful characters, enticing enough to enjoy on many levels. It’s witty, funny and exciting. Wonderfully directed by Gore Verbinski, the director of the horror film "The Ring”. The film is also having grand special effects, a huge budget that is worthy present on the screen. No doubt, that Verbinski is becoming a master of the horror. Directing Disney productions only proves how talented Verbinski really is. This is a decent piece of work.
Avariable on DVDs, always reachable for children and adults, a movie worth every penny by Walt Disney Pictures in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Films. It’s a 144 minutes of fun. Indeed.
