After loving the first Pirates film I just had to watch the second! The second in the series is called Dead Man's Chest and again it stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
The film starts with Elizabeth and Will trying to get married but before this happens Will is arrested and so is Elizabeth. They are sentenced to death for helping pirates. Will manages to evade the death penalty by agreeing to help capture Jack and return a compass which he has on his person to the English Navy in Port Royal.
Will sets off in search of Jack and finds him sailing the sea. Elizabeth is left behind but soon she finds herself aboard a ship as a stowaway and soon catches up with Will. Whilst at sea they encounter a monstrous sea creature who is summoned by Davey Jones to get sailors down to his locker.
Davey Jones is the ruler of the ocean depths and he lives with a crew of un-dead sailors who walk the ocean floor in search of new souls for his crew. The
men are sentenced to live a life of punishment and spend eternity as monsters who cannot die.
Will soon discovers Jack has got a debt to Davey Jones and owes him his soul but Jack is not willing to give this up so he is on a mission to find the Dead mans chest which contain Davey Jones heart. He cut out his heart and placed it in a chest when the love of his life betrayed him. The only way Davey can be killed is by the heart being stabbed with a metal blade and who ever does so will then become the ruler of the ocean depths.
Jack, Will and Elizabeth are all soon together and finding it harder than expected to defeat Davey as others are in search of the chest as well. Will Jack, Will and Elizabeth finally be able to defeat Davey and will Jack's life be spared? Can Will finally complete the mission he first set out on before the other problems got in his way and save his and Elizabeth's life?
This film is a great sequel to the first. The actors are all again brilliant in their roles and the added cast members were all very good and gave a bit more depth to the story instead of it just centring around the three main characters. I did enjoy seeing the one eyed pirate who keeps loosing his wooden eye again and his side kick, they both added a lot of humour to the film.
Johnny Depp once again adds a little magic to his character of Captain Jack and he still keeps the funny and silly side to him which is what I loved about him in the first film.
The story was very good and I liked the whole concept of Davey Jones locker and think that they bought it to the big screen very well indeed. The appearance of Davey and the other pirates who were part of his crew were all very good and sometimes they were quite scary. I did jump more than once when they would suddenly appear from walls and unusual places. I liked the way they had body parts turned into sea creatures from being under the sea for so long, this was a great way of portraying their punishment.
The effects in the film were all very good and very believable. My Mom watched this film several months ago but did not like it as she though it was a bit far fetched but I will have to completely disagree with her as I though it was a wonderful magical and funny film.
The DVD with I have does have 2 extras which are:-
Audio Commentary Bloopers of the Caribbean
Me and my hubby did watch the bloopers which are quite funny but we did not watch the audio commentary. Hubby watched the one on the first film but did not fancy this one as he had a good idea of what would be said from the first one.
The film was written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, it was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Directed by Gore Verbinski. The film has a running time of 145 minutes which I feel may be just too long for some to sit through but I found the length to be fine. The film also has a certificate of 12 which I feel is definitely suitable as there are scenes of moderate horror and violence.
I mentioned in the title about a jar of dirt, I am not going to tell you how this features in the film, you will just have to watch yourself to find out!
I managed to buy this DVD for just under £5 from Amazon.co.uk so do shop around and get yourself a good bargain.
I recommend this film to all fans of the first as we get more of an insight into Captain Jack Sparrow and it is a wonderfully actions packed and funny film from Disney.

I saw this in the Odeon in Leicester Square (so it's not like the screen and sound system weren't humungous enough)...and dear lord, was it in dire need of an actual script. Loved the first, was bored to the eyeballs by this one.
