I will begin by not going into too much detail as to how I came about watching this DVD but I will say that I was at a hen party and copious amounts of alcohol were involved.
The DVD claims that it will ‘let you in on the secrets of strip teasing in three lessons- show stage, strip tease and table dance. Basically the point of watching the film is to learn how to give a strip tease with confidence and without looking like a complete idiot. It is meant to be like taking lessons in strip tease but rather than doing it in a room full of strangers you can watch and learn from the comfort of your own home.
In recent years there has been a big increase in the number of women wanting to learn the techniques of pole dancing, burlesque and strip tease. Articles written by women who have taken part in these activities claim to feel liberated by it and so much more comfortable and confident about their bodies. I won’t deny I can see how this could be empowering but at the same time wonder if it isn’t just a bit seedy.
Anyway there seemed no harm in giving this a try and I was expecting to actually learn something from the DVD, however I think I expected too much from it. The teacher doesn’t exactly give lessons, there’s not enough explanation as to what she’s doing and the really tricky aspects of the moves you don’t actually get to see. The DVD seems to be more of a promotional film rather than teaching you anything. You watch as the lady strips but the things you really need to know about get cut out or avoided. As an example she starts in nothing but lingerie which isn’t really all that useful because the whole point in a strip tease is to remove each item of clothing slowly and seductively. When you start by not wearing much it isn’t all that difficult. Also she is wearing suspenders to begin with but you don’t get to see how she removes them which isn’t terribly helpful because that is probably the trickiest aspect of the whole routine.
The DVD also contains tips on how to give a good performance but they are so blindingly obvious that it seems pointless to even mention them. For example eye contact and looking and feeling sexy. I don’t think telling someone to look and feel sexy really teaches them how to achieve it. It simply shows her believing that she is.
Obviously the DVD is only really meant to be taken light heartedly but if you actually wanted to learn something then it would be a complete waste of money. Equally if you wanted to watch a proper strip tease then I would imagine there are better DVDs out there! It was good fun to watch especially after a few glasses too many.
The soundtrack is mostly house music with Bob Sinclair and David Guetta featuring. I would not recommend the DVD at all simply because it is meant to teach you something and it does not achieve this at all. Pink Paradise is considered a ‘high class’ striptease venue near the Champs Elysees in Paris and I would say the purpose of the DVD was actually intended to promote the club rather than to teach us anything.
It’s a bit of light-hearted fun and should be taken that way. With an RRP of £19.99 I certainly wouldn’t waste my money on it but it was a funny and memorable part of the hen night. If you want to learn to strip tease I suggest you take real lessons and don’t spend your money on this DVD. You will not learn any secrets from it and you may end up just feeling demoralised by all the beautiful women. At least if you take classes you are among real people!
