Possibly the oddest album ever to top the charts, this opus consists of a 23-minute tune, complete with grandiose horns in the form of the title track. On top of this, add one effort from each songwriting-singing Floyd and a less than essential three-part track, interspersed with the sounds of a roadie having breakfast, and you have an album you`ll either love or hate. It is personally one of my favourites, and I cannot get enough of the title track and its superb rise and fall sequences and climatic interludes. I also think that Rick Wright`s `Summer `68` and David Gilmour`s `Fat Old Sun` are some of their best efforts ever. However, a lot of people (Pink Floyd included) do not agree with me and see it as very self indulgent and boring. My advice would be to give it a go - you may be pleasantly surprised.
