Pingu is a kids television programme about a penguin and it is shown on CBBC and Cbeebies quite a bit. Pingu was thought up in 1984 by Otmar Gutmann and Harold Muecke, he is made of plasticine and hit the screens when he was barely one year old. In 1986 he starred in a pilot movie for Swiss television. He is now on 140 television channels worldwide. He can go on any channel in any language because he speaks in Penguinese and only word you can undertand is nug nug. Pingu lives in the Antarctic in a whale shaped igloo. He loves fishing, sledging and snowboarding and rides around on blue push along scooter and hates fish porridge.

The characters.

Pingu - A young penguin of school age. He does the local paper round.

Pinga - Pingu's three year old sister. She is too young for school so attends the local nursery.

Mother - Pingu and Pinga's long suffering mother.

Father - Father is the local postman.

Grandfather - Grandfather is retired and likes relaxing.

Robbie - Pingu's best friend who is a seal.

Pingi - Pingu's girlfriend whom he met a school.

Pingu and the Toy Shop

This DVD consists of nine episodes

Pingu and the Toy shop

Whilst out shopping at the local market, Pingu spots the toy shop. He goes in whilst mum is shopping at some of the stalls, picks a load of different toys but mum says no. He eventually spots a rocket on the top shelf so uses a pogo stick to reach it but ends up trashing the toy shop and the market. He has to clean up all his mess but the shop keeper accidentally drops a toy ship that he is making so Pingu makes a dash for it and ends up saving the ship before it smashes on the floor so ends up redeeming himself for all the trouble caused.

Pingu and the Paper Mache

At school the teacher decides to teach his pupils how to make Paper Mache. After he has shown them how to make a fish, his book blows away so off he goes to retrieve it. In the meantime the kids cause havoc with the Paper Mache mix and end up covering Pingu with the mix.

Sore Tummy Pingu

Mum buys the kids some fish snacks. He eats all the snacks that mum gave him then nicks the box and eats the rest. He then goes and visits a neighbour who gives him another box which he eats. Pingu then ends up in hospital with a poorly tummy but once he has a good burp he is fine.

Pingu gets carried away.

Pingu plays on his fathers postal snow trolley, so dad gives his a lesson on how to drive it. Pingu accidentally pulls the brake handle off so the trolley goes out of control and causes havoc at the local market. After this Pingu will not set foot on the trolley.

Pingu and the school pet.

A green lobster, the school pet, needs looking after, out of school time, so Pingu brings it home. The lobster escapes from his bowl and ends up attacking dad, who chucks him back in a fishing hole. Pingu wants it back so Robbie the seal goes looking for it.

Pampering Pingu

Pingu is caught chucking snowballs by his mother, so she takes the kids on a pampering session with her. Whilst in the saloon, Pingu gets bored so starts playing with the lotions and ends up causing chaos. To teach Pingu a lesson his mother makes him have a pampering session.

Green Eyed Pingu.

Pingu goes playing on his snow kart with his girlfriend Pingi. They start playing hide and seek but another boy penguin joins in, so Pingu starts getting jealous. Pingi and the other boy start playing piggy in the middle with Pingu in the middle so he ends up getting even more upset. The two boys end up fighting so Pingi then goes to be on her own. The boys end up making up so Pingi joins them again.

Pingu Wraps Up

Pingu and his sister are playing but Pinga gets hurt. Mother bandages Pinga up so then Pingu decides to play at being a doctor. He goes around the village bandaging everything up including his Grandfather. Father comes to the rescue and makes Pingu remove all the bandages.

Pingu and the Fish Flute.

Pingu finds a flute and goes around the village blowing the flute and disturbing everyone. They end up shouting at Pingu so he leaves the village.. He blows his flute near a fish hole and all the fish start dancing until a fish steals the flute and starts blowing it under water making bubbles.

Extras.

Crab Roulette Game.

Pingu and Robbie spin four barrels containing four different coloured crabs around. You have to guess which coloured crab has stopped in front of Pingu. Holly and I have been playing this game but as yet we have never managed to get the right colour

This DVD is 58 minutes long with the Pingu episodes 45 minutes so each episode is about 5 minutes long. It is certified Universal, suitable for all. The DVD is produced by HIT entertainment, who produce most of the kids DVDs.

O.K. So this DVD is not exactly educational but it is certainly good for a bit of a chuckle. Holly sits and watches the DVD and I can hear her chuckling away to her self and she does sometimes run around the lounge pretending to be Pingu.

I found this in my local charity shop for 50p (a bargain) along with a few other kids DVD's but it is available for sale on Amazon for £4.97 new or £1.36 used.
