The choreographer is really good, and her credibility is backed up by the fact that she has worked with stars like the Sugababes, Rihanna and Mary J Blige. You definitely warm to her, shes not patronising, and you do feel part of the dance class whilst she is teaching you the moves!
There are three main routines that she teaches you, each with a chorus and verse - "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado, "SOS" By Rhianna, "Aint No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera and "Beep" by The Pussycat Dolls. The DVD also includes other extras like meeting the dance troupe, make up tips etc as well as a full routine at the end of each taught section perfomed by the dance troupe.
Positive Points: It is fun, funky and sassy and the choreography once put together is pretty good for beginners. Paulette goes through each section slowly and explains the moves well, and of course there is always the option to pause/rewind anyway. The choice of music is good, each section isnt dragged on and you do feel a sense of achievement when you get each section right (and in time to the music!)
Negative Points: If you are thinking of buying this DVD to get fit, or are used to this type of dancing/have done a few classes etc in the past and are after something more complicated and energetic, then it probably isnt the best choice. I used to dance competitively across the country in similar styles to this one, and the routines are fairly basic, and I dont think it really makes you sweat! The time it takes to get to run through each section to music also slows down any chance you had of getting a good work out, which I guess is the nature of the beast when you are learning to dance! Once they have gone through the routine to music once at the end, its all over and on to the next routine step by step.
Overall Id say that this is a perfect DVD for beginners who are too shy to go to a class. Pineapple has an excellent reputation and the choreography is easy to master. However, If you are more of an accomplished dancer and are looking just to get fit then this probably isnt the right dance dvd for you.
Advantages: Lots of camera angles and moves you could try out on the dancefloor Disadvantages: You don't get to learn all of the dance just part of it
...to do a class at Pineapple studios but was never brave enough to go so I thought this would be the next best bet for me!
I bought the DVD on ebay and it pretty much lived up to my expectations.
The DVD teaches you four dance routines to fairly recent chart hits like Maneater by Nelly Furtado and Beep by the Pussycat Dolls and also has a warm up and cool down.
The teaching part goes really slowly so that you probably wouldn't need to rewind at ... ...thinking. What you actually learn is a small part of the song like the end of a verse and the chorus so that when you go to the 'performance' part of the DVD you join in when you can with the parts you know (there's a count in on screen). There's always the potential to teach yourself the rest of the moves.
The presenter Pauline Minott is not a great dancer (but a great choreographer) and some of the other girls put her to shame. Not sure what's ...
