A couple of years back , I was quite a fan of High School Musical , and now a few years on , I am still interested in other movies the stars have done. For I have watched both of Zac Efron's movies , Hairspray and 17 Again. So when I heard that Ashley Tisdale had a movie out called 'Picture This' , I was interested to see whether it would be as good as her previous work ; the High School Musical movies.
Picture This is an American comedy movie released in the United States on July 13th 2008. This movie was directed by Stephen Herek and stars Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay in High School Musical). Running time of this movie is ninety two minutes (two minutes over one hour and a half). This movie is a 12 which means it should not be watched by persons under the age of twelve.
Unpopular school girl Mandy is desperate for the-most-popular-guy in school , Drew to notice her. When she finds out that he is on the swimming team , she wants to join too. Soon , he is inviting her to 'the biggest party of the year' , however there's
a problem ; she's grounded! Will she get to go to the big party or will her dad stop her ? And what will Mandy find along the way ? Watch Picture This to find out!
One thing I didn't like about this movie was the fact that the characters are characters which I have already seen many times before in other high school movies like this. There's always an unpopular girl , who's bullied and likes the popular guy. The guy has a mean popular girlfriend , but the unpopular girl wants to be his girlfriend. I thought that it was a bit repetitive and unoriginal. I had expected Ashley Tisdale, being such a 'well known' actress and a huge success after the High School Musical movies to have done a 'great movie'; yes , she acted well and played her part well but the plot was a bit boring and dragged on a bit. Also I felt we weren't given a 'proper' introduction to the character of Mandy , it just went straight into the story , and so we had to use this time to get to know the character , rather than have had a good introduction before the story actually started.
I also think that this movie gives out a bad message to teenagers ; that you have to change your image and behave in a certain way in order for a guy to like you! I think that having a certain image is already a 'tough' thing for teens to have already without feeling they have to conform to this type of behaviour and feel under pressure without the added pressure of movies like this.
Another criticism I have , is to do with the speed of the movie. Although , the storyline is fairy simple and easy to follow , I found the the movie moved along quite quickly and so the viewer was left unable to absorb what was going on and make a conclusion regarding what was happening. I think some scenes could have been elaborated a lot more in order to give the viewer a better understanding of the storyline.
I thought that the ending came to a sudden finish quite quickly and it was a very predictable end! I also thought that the ending was quite unpredictable and something I have seen in so many other movies before and so when it got to the last couple of minutes of the film I just knew what what was coming , and I was spot on! I thought that they could have made the ending a bit 'I didn't expect that to happen' , as it so obvious all along what was going to happen.
The only interesting thing I found about this movie was to see how Ashley Tisdale had progressed from her High School Musical days. I thought that it was quite funny to see her in a reverse role to the one she has played in the three High School Musical films ; popular Sharpay! So it was nice to see her play the opposite part. However ,because I have watched the HSM movies so many times ; I couldn't think of Ashley as anyone else but her character in the HSM films!
I think that young teens may like this as it is about teenagers who are in school and so it is something that people of that age can relate to. Everyone will be able to relate to some aspect of the film whether it be the feeling of first time romance and crushes to being unpopular. I think this movie is particularly good for a sleepover as teenage girls will love this! Having said that , I'm sure that some adults will like it too! Although it just wasn't for me as it so unoriginal! I was tempted to 'switch it off' but continued to watch it right until the end in hope that it would get better , but it didn't!
Unless your a young teen and a big fan of Ashley Tisdale , then I wouldn't really reccommend this movie!
