... ...didn’t want to grow up. Peter Pan is a fantasy, almost elf-like boy, who occasionally visits London to find out more about children’s tales. On this visit, he is looking to find out more about the fate of Cinderella when he encounters the Darling family. Made up of Mr and Mrs Darling, Aunt Millicent, Wendy, Michael, John and Nana the St Bernard, the Darlings appear to be a typical Victorian family who are very close and enjoy each others company. ...

Advantages: Good for easily entertained children Disadvantages: Bit of a snooze for adults
...a trip to Neverland with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, think happy thoughts and take the plunge.
Hogan’s directorial touch is light and his decision to use immense background mattes for both London and Neverland gives the locales a magical and surreal aspect – all pink and white puffy clouds and sunkissed skies. It is a trick that belies the story’s stage origins and means that one never feels totally immersed in the world presented on screen, but ... ...in the cold outside.
Peter Pan is played by first-timer Jeremy Sumpter. He is cocky enough to convince as the eternally young hero and he shows a decent emotional range in the scenes where he is required to be a little more than arrogant. So he’s likeable enough, although it irks me somewhat that the lead such an English classic is played by an American.
Rachel Hurd-Wood, who plays Wendy is part of that old school of child actors who have been ...

...know the basic story of Peter Pan you must have spent your life with a bucket on your head. Most of you, like me, will know the story purely from the Disney animated film and storybooks, or if you are very unlucky from the only other live action version to this, ‘Hook’ (starring Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Bob Hoskins and the only good thing about the whole film – Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell). Now there isn’t anything that wrong with the animated ... ...she at all relishes.
Peter Pan turns up as the magical boy who likes to listen to Wendy’s stories from outside the window, as he hasn’t got a mother to tell him stories, and then he goes back to the Lost Boys on Never Never Land to tell them, as they are also orphans. When his shadow escapes into the Darlings nursery he chases after it and encounters Wendy and the boys and takes about two minutes to convince them to go with him to Never Never Land ...

Advantages: The fairies are beautifully done, characters well cast, quite dark in places for the adults, faithful to the original Disadvantages: Could have been longer, quite dark in places, might upset children
Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie's classic is brought to life in this film. From the capture of Pan's shadow through to the battle on Hook's ship the story is enthralling.
Wendy is told that the time for games with the boys and stories of pirates is over, and that she must begin to learn to be a woman. Her Aunt Millicent (played by Lynne Redgrave) is going to take her tutoring over from Nana - a dog. That night, Peter enters her bedroom, and as he tries to ... ...the Mermaids/Sirens. Peter Pan is played by Jeremy Sumpter, who portrays Pan exactly as I see him - a cheeky chap, who feels a little bit left behind, but stubbornly holding on to his decisions (and childhood) to the last. The characters in this have been really well casted, and there are some lovely bit parts from Geoffery Palmer and Richard Briers.
Best cast is Captain Hook. After Dustin Hoffman brilliantly graced the screens as Hook more than ...

...slightly obsessed by all things Peter Pan. I never got round to seeing it in the cinemas, even though i'd wanted to, but i eventually got it a couple of christmases ago on DVD.
Sure enough i was transported into Never Land, with it's fluffy clouds, fairies and giant ticking crocodiles. As well as going adventuring with the lost boys, but it just seemed like something was missing and i'm still not entirely sure what.

That is until Peter whisks her away, along with her two brothers (Micheal and John) to Never Land and the Lost Boys Here Wendy becomes mother to the Lost Boys, telling them stories and feeding them medicine. This, however, is not problem free, Peters sidekick, Tinkerbell, gets jealous at the lack of attention he is now showing her and at one point plots to kill Wendy.
Add into the story Peters ongoing battle with the imfamous Captain Hook and ...

Advantages: Easy to watch, great effects, superb acting. Disadvantages: More realistic effects than cartoon could upset some young children
...I have so far been lucky enough to escape the extravagant cost of visiting the cinema to watch a film I do not really want to see but know the kids will love. I am of the opinion that a film which states Parental Guidance should offer the Guardian a free ticket and amazingly this may encourage more families to venture to see the film rather than awaiting its release on DvD. So await I did for the release of PeterPan on DvD.
~Story~
I am sure that most of you know the tale of PeterPan written by J M Barrie (there is even a film released about the author later this year) about a boy who never grows up and lived in a world of Indians, Pirates and Fairies. The original book was produced for the stage in 1904 which is why PeterPan has become popular again recently to celebrate 100 years of the story. It first appeared...

Advantages: fun for kids Disadvantages: boring for adults
...Although Wendy is now grown up with a husband and two kids of her own, Jane and Danny, she never stopped believing in PeterPan.
Set the scene. War torn England. Wendy’s husband is sent off to fight in the war, and the evacuation notice has arrived for Jane and Danny to be taken to the country.
But wait…….
Jane, a disbeliever of PeterPan is kidnapped by Captain Hook (you knew that was coming didn’t you), and taken to Never Land.
To return home to her family she must believe in the magic and learn to fly. Can she do it?
Along the way, Captain Hook makes a bargain with her to get his lost treasure back, offering Jane a passage home on his ship if she helps him.
What shall she do?
That’s enough of the storyline, as I don’t want to spoil it for all you big kids out there.
My Verdict:
Admittedly...

DVD Description
Everyone knows Peter Pan as the boy who will never grow up. Writer/director P.J. Hogan's (MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING) live-action interpretation of the classic J.M. Barrie tale is surprisingly sentimental, imbuing Peter--played by the charming Jeremy Sumpter--with a sense of longing and a desire to be loved. The object of his affection is Wendy Darling (Rachel Hurd-Wood), a pre-teen in Edwardian London with a penchant for telling dazzling tales to her younger brothers. When Mr. Darling (Jason Isaacs, who doubles as a daunting Captain Hook) decides that Wendy should live with her Aunt Millicent (Lynn Redgrave) in order to become a proper lady, Peter takes the Darling children to Neverland, where all of the characters in Wendy's stories actually exist. The trio embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, flying through the skies, encountering nasty mermaids, and enduring Tinker Bell's (Ludivine Sagnier) hijinx. Along with the Lost Boys, the Darling children take on Captain Hook, Peter Pan's arch nemesis, and his band of pirates. Filled with lush sets and splendid special effects, this film is a visual treat. PETER PAN also stars Olivia Williams as the fetching Mrs. Darling, and Richard Briers as Hook's sidekick, Smee.
