I bought this dvd about 3 months ago on Ebay. After loving his hit series 'PHOENIX NIGHTS',and watching 'Live at the Bolton Albert Halls',about two years previously I knew he was a class act, with a unique comedy style of his own. It wasnt up until just randomly coming across it on Ebay that I was reminded what a great and hilarious talent he is. I payed only 0.99p for the dvd, which had been used previously, but had come in great condition. Only yesterday,I saw it in HMV for 6 pounds, which is great value for such a great installment of laughs.
The DVD is called 'Peter Kay,Live at the Bolton Albert Halls,as part of his 'Mum wants a Bungalow Tour'. Bolton being his home town,it was bound to be a sell-out It's filmed as part of his sell out ,180 date tour that spanned 9 months and was seen by 300,000 people. Many people who are seen in the audience of this dvd include, famous faces from Coronation Street.
The dvd lasts about an hour and a half and contains NO extra scenes. Which would have been nice,as I know that any extra scenes from Peter Kay would have been hilarious.
Peters main style consists of making jokes about the everyday things that we do. For example the 'Walking to the Dance Floor Dance',which im afraid the majority of us have probably done, and being at Weddings and family occasions, where a whole host of strange relatives come out of the woodwork!
Kay starts the DVD off,by getting a Taxi with Boltons famous Taxi Driver:Mr Bee. Mr Bee tries out many jokes and ideas for a catchy slogan for his taxi company on Kay,much to his disbelief. They also pick up two women who are on their way to see Kay and are worried about missing the show. Then Peter says something funny,if I remember correctly, like:'How can you miss the show when your sharing a Taxi with the comedian your off to see?!' These women are achully from Coronation street,in the name of Barmaids,Gina and Shelley.
Kays jokes keep coming thick and fast and guarantee a laugh everytime. He not only does jokes, but incorporates singing songs that we all recognise, but by changing the words,he also demonstrates how different relatives dance at family gatherings and sucks the helium out of a ballon, while encorouging the audience to sing 'Danny Boy'. These are all hilarious and really remind you of the stupid and hilarious things we do on a daily basis.
As a Northerner I also found the joke about Southern Chip shops funny. He doesnt have a go at Southerners, far from it,infact he's almost taking the mick out of us Northerners for being so amazed that they dont do gravy or Mushy peas! (Correct me if its all changed now, since the release of the dvd) I also find his dancing hilarious as he's got such a nack of using the situation to make a laugh.
All in all i'd give this dvd a 10/10.despite the fact that theres no extras. You can pick it up relatively cheaper than the fifteen pounds it was when it originally came out,as I proved on Ebay. If you want a barrell full of family laughs, then id definately give this a go. It contains very mild sex referances and generally is suitable for most, despite it being rated a 15.
